Koni Yellows & Upper mount Question

Ok, I searched for about an hour and did not find what I needed, so here it goes:

Did the install of my koni yellows with new upper mounts, everything went fine, drilled out the spacer and the "donut" that goes on top of the shock mount under the spacer. Ok, now looking at pictures, it seems that some people leave out the top rubber donut, that you can see from the engine bay (comes off with the 1st bolt you remove from the shock) and some meckehnicks drill it out also, and put it back on. If you drill it out, it doesn't look like it will bottom out on the spacer and hold the whole assy. tight. It seems like a necessary piece as it could remove some of the movment of the top part of the shock rod.
I track the car a few times a year and don't want any unnecessary slop in the suspension. I want to do this right and not screw with it again.
Thanks

The top washer does not hold anything tight and it's supposed to bottom out on the spacer below. It's just there in case you totally unload the suspension to keep the shock from possibly coming out. Like if you jump the car or something. Some people just leave it off. I drilled it out and used it again when I had Konis.
