Exclamation Knock sensor

Could you use a G.M. style knock sensor? I have not done my home work via the Mazda application yet but I do know how the G.M. sensor is set up. I assume the tuning of the sensors is different but how would they stack up next to each other. Has anyone set up volt meters reading the output voltage etc. It seems to me one could install a G.M. sensor and connect it to a volt meter and just read the activity lever etc. John St. John

The knock sensor does not output voltage. It's a piezo-electric (sp?) microphone. MSD makes a "knock alert" box that does something similar to what you want.

The knock data is only as good as the interpreter though. There's a reason why the J&S Safeguard isn't a simple piece of electronics. Engine noise increases as RPM increases. Certain noises, clearances, and temperature can trigger false positives.
