knock help

i have a 94 rx7. i have a fc comander. under normal driving my comander has been saying im reaching knock of 60-75. that sounds high to me, am i wrong? i always use 93 gas from shell. it normally never got above 55 or 60 as a peak. i have no clue were the knock sensor is located, KD rotary did all the work and tuned the car. if any one has a clue please let me know. thanks.

Go out for a drive and get the warning light to flash. When the warning heat light flashes, take note of whether you are accelerating or not. If you are de-accelerating or just changed gear (anything that lowers rpm) then all is good! The PFC has a tendancy to pickup on backfires and record them as knocks. If its knocking when you are accelerating then it is actually knocking & over 60 = bad. I have a friend with a sound engine recording 160+ on backfires lol.

If the PFC is installed correctly then it will use the exhaust heat light as a warning light & iirc it goes off at 55-60.

on the way home today i had a peak of 59 and it was durring about 3/4 throttle to pass a car. knock did not spike durring any backfires. also my heat warning light does not come on when knock gets high. durring deceleration knock does not spike. i wonder if i need new spark plugs? motar was redone 16k ago. i have no clue what is going on.

Non boost knock values are irrelevant. Ignore them.

Do a search in the PFC section for lots of information on this topic.

Your engine is not going to blow when in vacuum. The only knock values that matter are those under boost, and even these vary considerably from car to car: some people see 20 or less, others 70+. And you really need a Datalogit to make sense of knock.

The PFC forum on this board has many discussions on this topic.

the chance of encountering detonation while not in boost are really really small.

The knock spikes under boost. not vacume. it only happens when i am acellerating. it is not costant, it spikes that drops instantly.

Knock will spike at transition (assuming you are running sequentially). As I said, you really need a Datalogit to make sense of the pattern.

that and any number of things cause knock. knock can be anything from bad gas, to road noise, to something hitting the engine.
