Hi there,

Has anyone installed a kirkey racing seat in the FD? Can you tell me how the seat was mounted. Picture would be nice too

Thanks,

Randy

Randy,

I mounted mine to the stock seat brackets with spacers up front to lay the seat back a bit. I've tried several seats and this is the most comfortable by a large margin. Unfortunately, I've forgotten the measurements, but here are some pics that might help you:

Hi Gene,

1. Is this the 15" hip model or?

2. Does the shoulder clear the door?

3. Did you drill/thread new holes on the bottom? Or the original mounting hole lines up perfectly at stock rail location?

4. Do you sit lower after installing the seat?

5. Is this the intermediate or deluxe road race seat?

Thanks,

Randy

I think it's the 16 or 17.

Yes- barely. This is one of the main reasons for selecting this seat over, say Momo or Sparco.

I had to drill the holes. Ordered the seat without.

Yes- approximately 1.5-2". Makes the car legal for road racing as my helmet is under the main roll hoop. Of course, this depends on your height/body length. I'm 5'11" with a fairly long torso.

I believe it was the deluxe. It's a few years old, so the model has changed a bit. Overall dimensions are similar, however.

Very! I drove the car from San Franciso to Seattle (approx 800 miles) and was very comfortable. I'm not the smallest guy in the world either- 5'11", 230 lbs, 34" thighs, 19" arms, 50" chest.

Gene, thanks very much for chiming in with this info and pics. I've searched far and wide for hard facts on which seat fits, how it is mounted, and how it affects driving position. And thanks Alpine for asking the relevant questions...

A couple more:
Is that the 20 degree layback that still needed more recline?
Is the seat back brace required or just "recommended"?

Another question, did you secure the bottom of the seat using bolt and nuts? or did you make threads in the seat's aluminum panel? From the picture, it looks like the aluminum is too thin to make threads.

is this possible!? The picture link doesn't seem to still work, but from what I know about kirkey's they are Hellas uncomfortable. Maybe there is a lightweight comfortable kirkey model. Anyone know which seat model the gfelber had.
