I have seen 2 rolled third gen RX7's. Because of its light weight and wieght distribution, only the A pillars collapsed. Neither of these cars had roll bars or cages. The C pillar remained intact and protected the occupants. This is not to say that a rollbar isn't going to save someone's ***. ' Cause it may save mine - I have a Kirk Racing Rollbar.

hey jack ***......how about asking about the sub instead of jumping to conclusions. it it made of fiberglass, hand laid by myself and roomate. it has 2 quick connect cables and weigs only 22#. it is unobtrusive, unlike your replies, and does not hinder the performance of the car (given the spare and bose equipped rear)......because......it is actually lighter than the original equipment in the rear of the car. i am not a ricer....and wil NOT reduce myself to a flame war....with the exception of the 'jack-***' comment....it was for humor....

i drive my car....and drive it hard. yes that was also my other FD in the rollover pic. the kirk cage does fine, however, it is slightly heavy for my current roadracing application, so.......i will be looking for a lighter one...possibly the M2 one, but can not justify paying that much right now..... if you would like to meet one day at a PCA event in memphis or baton rouge and drive on a track, we can. and just to meet and shoot the ****.

thanks GsrSol for reposting those pics. i was really feeling nostalgic today....it was one year ago yesterday that i flipped that rx7.....damn sure would have been nice to still own it too.......

Kirkracing do not make chomoly roll bars. They only make 2" diameter mild steel ones.

Now Unorthodox Racing which is on Long Island can make custom roll bars/cages out of chomoly.

Ed

BTW, I think it is very pretentious to call someone a ricer just because he has a subwoofer.

Gentlemen, I stand corrected about the subwoofer comment...glad to know you're all true racers...I don't visit this topic much, so I don't know the personalities. I apologize for causing any irritation.

Thanks for the invite...I'm not traveling far from home these days, as my FD has 98,000 miles on the original motor and turbos, with ~1/3 of those miles from track events. I have traveled as far as Summit Point for MADS '99 and to Road Atlanta in May 2000 for a Peachtree BMW CCA drivers school. These days I need to trailer the car to get home when the inevitable happens (popped motor). I did do a Mid Ohio Region PCA drivers ed at Mid Ohio Sports Car Course May 9/10 this year..., but that was the extent of my travel plans for this year.

Best of luck with the track events...

P.S. do you currently have the 6-point full cage or the 4-point C-pillar roll cage?

I'm glad to see an apology because I was about to say I thought it was out of line too. Hopefully we can all get along now.

spicrx7....buying the ugly cheap roll bar makes you GHETTO. Id rather have a good looking ricer than ghetto ugly jalopy looking shi# as long as the function is the same.

I honestly prefer the best looking parts possible...thats one of the reasons Im not happy with the pettit intake....its just too home made looking...the fd is and will continue to be a classy car..even if it is race ready...cheapening the looks sucks.

my two cents...m2 stuff kicks ***!!

Thats the bar Im looking at.

Just because the Kirk bar costs 500 dollars less than the M2 doesn't make it anymore ghetto. The Kirk bar looks really good in my opinion, and works well. Cost is $315 + shipping for the 1.75" mild steel, a lot better than baying 800+ for the M2 setup. And, you can get the Kirk bar a few weeks after ordering it. Try THAT with the M2! If you buy the M2 solely on how it looks, then you sir, are a ricer and I feel sorry for your family.

Thank you.

gramps,

Kirk says you can mount the side bar anywhere you like...most FD owner apparently mount the side bar just above the door sill? I believe it's a weld-in side bar...contact Kirk to be sure...

I'll bet that if I asked for photos and info on subwoofers I would have gotten a better response.

Thanks.
I was hoping for photos, I wanted to see what kind of clearances there are for the forward down tubes and cross tube as well as the door bars.

I already have the cage I just don't want to get into the major wrestling match just to see what the clearances are.

Not hardly, real racers make money at it, otherwise you're a hobbyist. Some hobbyists just take offence when you laugh at their creations.

The funnier creations resemble parade floats...

racing for money WOULD be nice. it WOULD have been cool to grow up with it, but we're all not that lucky...

furthermore, as far as the kirk cage goes, there are things that i like and don't like about it. it IS a little heavy for my taste, but is removable. it CAN be welded, but i have chosen simply to bolt it in for now, a permenant one is in the future. plus i was able to remove it from my wrecked car :-/ the cage slightly interferes with the passenger leg room. i do not *haul* too many passengers around, so this is of no [major] concern to me. if you are over 5'10", you would be ''riding'' the dash with this cage......i would like to own one of the M2 cages, but simply can't afford it right now.

it [the cage] is simply a nice thought when i am coming out of a 130-140mph straight into an over-the-hill blind left........you know....reassurance if anything should go wrong.....

I guess I should be clear about what *I* mean about a roll cage vs. a roll bar.

I consider a roll cage to also go forward towards the dash and down to the floor with optional door tubes.

A roll bar is only a braced hoop to the rear of the front seats.

From this definition and your references you have a roll bar - correct?

I am trying to find photos of Kirk roll cage forward tube clearances to the dash and a-pillars, leg room etc.

right. roll*bar*, not cage.......it is not the one with the forward bracing. however, the forward braces can be added to the one that i have, thus makin it a *cage*, i just use that term too loosley i guess.....
