keeping my FD running happy..
hey fellas, i just finished reading the archived "Mod list to keep your FD running happy" thread and i still have havent been able to answer all my questions. heres my situation.
my daily driver right now is a 98 eclipse GST with 95K miles. i do all the required maint. and its running fine. i was lucky enough to meet this dude willing to trade his 3rd gen rx7 for my ride. his rex has a rebuilt engine(0 miles), 14K mile stock turbos, mp, dp, catback, intake, greedy pully kit, t timer, and A/F r gauge. ive talked to a few of you members on what i can do to keep this car 'running happy' for as little $ as possible. ive received the following suggestions:
- new Fuel Comp or
- put stock mp back on
with that said, what is the best way to keep this rex as a daily driver, and at the same time not setting me back? i to school and to work(total of 180 miles a week)
thanks

First of all, even with the stock main cat, you should have an aftermarket or reprogrammed ecu for those mods. This is undoubtedly why your friend blew the engine. The turbos could also be in bad shape as he must have been running 15 or 16 lbs with those mods.
"reliability" mods you'll HAVE to do:
*ecu
*aluminum AST if he doesn't already have one
*even with the ecu, you might need to port the wastegate if you keep the midpipe
*larger intercooler, the stock intercooler is not adequate for those mods, but might hold you for a while with the stock cat put back in
*if the radiator is bad, replace it with the Fluidyne, if it's not bad, it should be fine
*break in that new engine, first 500 miles - limit to 2-3 lbs of boost and 4000 rpm, change oil; 500-1000 miles - limit to 5 lbs of boost and 5000 rpm, change oil again; many people say extend this light boosting to 2 or 3k, but I think the engine will be fully broken in by then.
