K&N Airbox filter?
Hi everyone,
I have a question on the K & N airbox filter. I've heard that these may not filter air very well and may be harmful to your engine. Is this true? Also, does it have any effect on the 3 mod rule (intake, downpipe, exhaust) on the stock ecu? Are all of them the same for 93-95? Asking because the shop I went to only had one for a 94 in stock and I have a 93.
Thanks

The K&N filters very well, when it is properly installed and oiled. All FD's have the same airbox/filter. If you are just putting the K&N in a stock airbox, you will probably not even notice a difference, powerwise. Modding the airbox (cheap bastard intake, poor mans intake) will result in an improvement.
The 3 mod rule is a myth. Just keep boost to 10 psi with the stock ecu and you will be fine.

Been running mine for some time now without any issues. You won't notice much of a difference unless you open up the intake box. Once I went to the RB intake I noticed a difference although I already had a RB dual tip cat back. Adding a downpipe helped more although has made my 3k hesitation worse.
Not sure about the 3 mod rule. I seem to run rich and have not had any issues. But to be safe you should have a CPU and/or at least be checking your AFR's.
Mine has worked for years on the stock ECU with 3 mods but your results may vary

I noticed a slight difference with the K&N, and the stock airbox. It flows better, and I could feel it. You will notice a significant difference if you modify the box.

Keep it at 10 psi, and you can do just about anything you want
