Did you T-bone the divider or hit it at an angle?( I know he said head on but that means alot of different things to different people) Do you think it is totaled or repairable. I say no matter what spend the money to repair it and keep it alive!( Or let turbojeff take a crack at it) Do you have any pics? Sorry for your loss! Glad your OK! Fix it and buy a FWD pos for the winters. FWIW: I had the same thing happen to me in an Explorer. Crossed over a bridge and hit black ice on the other edge. Spun me directly at the divider and crunch! The rest is history.

PM Turbojeff...hes probably the best guy to get an estimate from, as hes repaired many FD's and can also repair yours even if it has frame damage. Also talk to your insurance agency and see what they'll give u for the car if its totalled. THEN you could also get the check from the insurance company, buy it back with a salvage title and part it out. Just explore all the options u have

Bummer, BUT it is alot of the stuff that would have eventually been yanked and replaced by you in the quest for more HP that bites us all. This gives you the reason to get the body kit work you've always wanted and put in all the Good stuff in the engine bay. Definatley talk to Turbojeff. Save that baby!It always sounds and looks worse than it is. IMO

Be careful of frame damage if you had a near head-on crash at 50 mph.

You might not wanna attempt to fix that.

"Frame damage."

This quasi-myth just keeps going and going.

im sorry to hear that man thats sucks and is no good at all and these guys are ruthless on your parts and I guess so am I. But if you have any of the interior plastics available and are selling them I got dibs preferably the door handles could really use those. Glad to see your ok and everything too bad about the car.

Frame damage can be repaired. The car can be effectively just like new if repaired properly. Remember the factory just spot welded them together in the first place, welding on a new frame rail isn't rocket science.

The reason these cars get totalled is due to high parts cost. If you look around a little on the forum you'll see parts going for 30% or less of list price. It makes much more sense to fix a car using used parts like headlight assemblies, etc. Some stuff like the frame rail, core support and fenders are actually relatively cheap and should be purchased new to save bodyshop time.

Shameless plug...

Not sure how much it is worth.. mine was a 94 with 24k and my ins. co is probably going to cut me a check for 19k (minus deductible). Just wanted to express my sympathies.. and encourage you to reconsider a departure from the land of the rx-7. I struggled with this descision myself recently (over the last couple of weeks) and have come to the conclusion that I just wont be as happy without a -7-, so I still plan on getting another one..
(here is my orig. post about my "incedent" with my 7):
https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...hreadid=245499

I am still looking for another 7, and if you really feel the same way about your car as I do about mine, you *may* want to think about getting it repaired or getting another one, or at least make sure you take your time thinking about it and dont just automatically give up...

peace!
dan

Sorry to hear about it. FDs (and every other FR high-performance car for that matter) is a bitch to drive in the snow or icy conditions. As I sold my daily driver (getting new one today) I was forced to do some commuting with my FD. We don't yet have snow, but the roads are very slippery (doing a 80mph rearwheel spin in 3rd or 4th gear is no problem). You just need to be carefull with the throttle AND steering wheel. And be alert fully at all times - rear can step out sometimes, but you should be able to correct that (or start practising on some parking lot).

Here's me and my car about a month ago when we went to a trip and had to do some snow driving on summer tires

It is possible to driver in snow, just be careful what you are doing.

RIP FD !

Why put your car thru it though. Not worth the risks or the ware if you ask me!

ya driving in the snow is bad and you should probably store it tru...before i write the rest of this...YES my RX7 IS STORED for the winter...

Its a little more intimidating than u guys from warmer climates think to store a 7. I've had 40-60yr old men tell me i'm being ridiculous storing it because it can't be that hard to drive it in the snow, after all they drive their audi tt's in the snow. They even look at me kind of like i'm being a woos or a snob for just not driving it. Everytime someone asks me where my 7 is and i tell them its done for the winter they say something like "oh so whens the work gonna be done?" they think i'm either just being ridiculous, or that its just being worked on and will be used next winter.

I know most people who drive them in the winter do so because its their only daily driver and not because people have made fun of them for it, but i just thought id add this post anyway

i was really thinking about getting another rx7 but i really needed a car that is more reliable or with a warranty. not so much for daily driving but just the cost of repairs in general. i'm 22 and i owned my rx7 for 6 months and i spent alot of money on repairs that i could of saved for my house. so i bought a 03 350z enthu with 5k, for 22k. it is a really great all around car but.......i'd rather have my rx7 back. as soon as i modded my rx7 it was like a totally different car. i miss that crazy top end pull..
