Okay, guys that have questions. The light is inside the key hole. You can't see it from the outside. When you pull up on the handle the inside of the lock lights up so you can see where to put your key. Most don't work anymore. Mine just stopped working in the last year or so.

i replaced mine with an orange led. just snip the wire and put a resistor in, then grind off the end of the led at a 45 degree angle to reflect the light down into the keyhole and jam it into the rubber bulb holder.

just started replacing some of my lights and I noticed this thread, I just have a few questions.
the first being that I went to take off my handle I noticed that those two white wires were just hanging in there, so do I just stick those back through the rubber plug and sodder like 1 of the wires on the light to one of the white wires and the other wire on the light to the the other white wire
also, the rubber plug you have to pull out, is it inside that top rubber thing or is that top rubber thing the plug you guys talk of
thanks

Funny story about door locks. This actually happened to me at SouthCenter Mall about this time last year. I was doing some Christmas shopping and I come out to get in my car and this young lady is standing by her car crying. I ask "What's wrong?" She says, "I can't get into my car and my mom doesn't answer her phone." As she is saying this she is repeatedly pressing the button on the remote to no avail. I tell her "let me see your keys" and after she hands them to me I turn around and stick the key in the door lock and give a twist and voila! the door opens! She didn't know what to say. I told her she should get a new battery for her remote.

door lock light
Posted this same thing on another thread. I read through all the info and links and redirects (what a mess) and finally came up with my input on this document (attached). My comments are in red. Hope someone else benefits from it. I also did not know there was a light there.

dont remember the specifications of the LED i used but it is what i used in the caculations, some diodes are rated at 2mA. for anyone that will be doing this just make sure not to make errors when doing your own calculations . thanks for catching the typeo with ohms vs. amperes in part of the post though lol
14v was used in the calculations as a precaution because the light is activated by pulling on the handle, such as when entering the vehicle when it is idling.

Wanted to tag this thread in case mine ever goes out, and figured I'd post pictures of the light as well since people didn't know what it looked like (even though the thread is old).
