Just picked up my first fd

Just recently I bought my first fd. It has some wrinkles but hopefully I can iron them out quickly. The car hasn't been ran in over a year and has no battery. It's single turbo and the tune is really rich on the PFC because it was originally tuned for smaller injectors then what it has now 850/1600. I took the battery out of my other car, pulled the egi

Fuse and cranked it over to try to get the oil pumped to lubricate the sitting motor. Next I put the fuse back in and started it up. It won't hold idle so I have to keep my foot on the gas to keep it from dieing. Is this from running rich?

Take a look at your spark plugs, I'll bet they are in pretty bad shape.

Two questions :

1) Did you drain the fuel tank and put in fresh fuel before attempting to crank this car? There is a drain bolt in the bottom of the tank.

It only takes about 6 months for gas to become something other than fuel. Changing the fuel pump sock and fuel filter would also be good to do at this time.

2) What logical reason did you have for changing the injectors?? It would have no choice but run rich if put larger injectors in than what it was tuned for.

Just for example:

If your primaries were 550cc and now they are 850cc, you are now delivering 54.5% more fuel.

Unless you have the power FC setup for your injector combo and tuned you should not drive it.

Yeah it's supposively tuned for 550/1300 injectors. Single turbo. And the previous owner upgraded to 850/1600 and it still has the same tune on the power fc. So that's why I'm saying it's running rich across the whole board. I plan on draining the fuel, oil, and check spark plugs tomorrow. I just got it yesterday.

Oh and the reason the person prior changed injectors because he wanted more boost and the original fuel line had a leak so he swapped to cjm fuel setup

I wouldn't attempt to drive it until of is tuned. Just for safety sake. >50% more fuel in all situations is a recipe for disaster.

With the computer, it doesn't use closed loop at idle so it can compensate for the additional fuel then. And if closed loop is enabled on your tune, typical it can only adjust fueling +25% or -25%. (I am not a Power FC expert, this is just based on general automotive FI systems). So, it would not come close to correcting the overfueling.

Being that rich can allow fuel to make it into to the crankcase, possibly damaging bearings.

If this car has a catalytic converter, it will overheat from the raw fuel. At best it will just melt the brick, at worst it can get hot enough to ignite something.

Or it will just drip raw fuel out of the tailpipe.

None of these are good things, and in the long run you'll be happier with a faster and safer car just by getting it tuned.

Also, unless you are pushing pretty big powernumbers, i would recommend you doing a 550/1600 setup on the injectors, for easier management of idle.

Well I have the original fuel rails and 550-1300 injectors but the hose from the primary rail to the secondary has a leak in it. Could I use some type of stainless line to put that back on or should I just get a set of 550cc injectors for cjm fuel rail? I'd like to get this all running but I don't think there is any rotary shops around me to tune it

He goes by Karrak on this forum. I would just have him quote tuning your car and take a look for intake leaks or just idle adjustment.

What you should do is definitely drain the fuel, replace spark plugs and wires, and maybe search on the 3rd gen forum on how to adjust your idle.

By the way, your CJM fuel rails are like what the most expensive fuel setup you can get, I would just stick with that setup and see if you can get it tuned properly.

Yeah I've been calling that number all week even before I got the car cause I knew he'd be the one to tune but he never answers. I couldn't pm him cause I didn't have enough posts so hopefully I have enough now. Yeah I'm going to see if I can borrow the smoker system at work to check to see if I have any leaks in the intake system. Quickest and easiest way to check for leaks!
