Just picked up the FD project. One rotor has low compression
Hey guys, I am very happy to join the ranks of the rx7's. The first problem that i am tackling in my new fd is that one of the rotors is low on compression.
I do not know alot about of technical stuff about rotaries, but when its being started it does not make the wizzing sound like an electric motor. It still makes compression and you can hear it. It does not shake like a paint shaker .....
I dont know what to do. Im pretty positive that it does not need the full rebuild kit. Ive heard that i might need to pick up and gasket and seal kit to fix it or that an apex spring might of gotten stuck.
I know that you guys are the guru's when it comes to rotaries so i am coming to you guys for any help here on what need to be done. thanks

i would first start by doing your own compression test, if the engine is flooded bad it will sound like it's ''low on compression'', search & u will find a good how to on compression tests. you can use a normal tester, just follow the instructions you find on this site.
unless someone has solid info to back it up, i would probably have it redone for yourself, maybe whoever did it was wrong? maybe really flooded? would sure be nice to find good compression & just needs plugs or something. trust me you will feel better knowing the numbers yourself, get your hands dirty now, your gonna need to get used to it lol
i bought it from the master fabricator of Intense Motorsports, so i trust what he says. He did change the plugs and hadent tried since then. It may fix the problem right there.
It has been started twice in about 6-8 months. he was telling me to drain gas, drain and change oil, change oil and fuel filter .... what else needs to be done to make it safe to run?
Also, if the plugs dont fix the problem, what would you do next?

Run compression test is the first thing you need to do. No need in replacing other things if the engine needs pulled right away, might as well wait until you pull the engine to replace all the other stuff as it is easier to do with the car pulled apart.
