Just new here, got a few Q's

Hey guys,
Ever since i saw my 1st Gen 3 Rx-7 I have wanted one. Well the day that my dream comes true is getting closer. I have no idea about the car other that they look awesome. So a few questions.
1) Are Japanese Gen 3's twin turbo standard?
2) How much power do they produce standard?
3) I heard that yoy need to re-build rotaries all the time. Is this true? After how many miles do you need to rebuild the motor?
4) Whats the widest rear tires you can put on it without them commin out from under the guards.

I think thats about all
Thankyou for all your help.

a search will net you all the answers you need.

the power range is 255 to 280hp for japanese rx7s. Export cars will produce a little less. I've heard the australian fd is closer to 235hp.

easy to get the power back (and beyond) though - basic modifications will do this.

In australia, the majority of cars are 'australian' rx7s. There are a handful of private imports (which is what mine will eventually be). Other than that, you can buy an imported series 8 (which were not released in australia) - however, due to various reasons, they are really expensive (last time I checked - over A$60k). Check the australian section of this forum for further answers on this.

I have 9" rears on mine and they are a good fit.

The engines need to be constantly maintained and monitored. And yes, they are prone to going 'critical' (particularly when modified for power). As noted, depends on how you treat them.

One great point, is that being in australia, you have access to arguably the second best resource of mazda mechanics in the world (after japan).

You guys are great! How much does it cost for the engine rebuild? Also im looking at having around 500rwhp. Could you guys suggest how this could be achieved and if it could be done for under $10K USD on a stock motor?

Thankx

I have 18X 10's on my rear- and it scares people away!
And man, at your age (and mine) there is absolutly no reason for you to need a 500 hp street beast.
Keep it stock.

You will not get 500 rwhp for 10 grand. You don't need that much for a street car, anyway. I have around 400 at 17 psi and it's waaaay more than I really need . Enjoy the car stock (or near stock) and then slowly mod it. Best way to go in my opinion......

keep it sensible - 500hp is a massive amount for the street.

with 255hp at the flywheel it does mid-13s - you do the math!

I've heard of single turbo conversions coming under the A$20k mark - that's what you'll be needing.

500rwhp will cost a LOT of money to do properly, reliably and safely.

300-400rwhp is the maximum I would aim for, unless I was making a drag-only vehicle.

Ok, I just didnt want to be embarrased by my mates Supra. Guess Ill go for around 400rwhp then. With 400 will the car still be reliable? How often should i rebuild it if i service it every 3,000miles and let it warm up and cool down properly?
Sorry about these questions i know some of them are a matter of personal opinion thus making it hard to come by a common answer. Thankyou for your feedback.
