Just got my own FD!

Hey Guys...

I am coming back to the forum after a long while. I used to have an FC. It was a 1987 Turbo II black on black and it was my first manual transmission car. That car had great handling and power and I think it got me hooked on rotaries. After that I had a 3000GT VR4 for a few years and then a 2004 RX8. Well the RX8 was totaled (got rear ended while parked) and ever since I have been looking for another rotary. The FD has always been my favorite but I never had a chance to own one... until now!

I just purchased a 1994 shining silver metallic with red leather interior. The car has nearly 100k miles but had a rebuilt engine a few years ago including street-porting and 3mm apex seals by Acosta. It also is a single turbo conversion with a T66 turbo. Has the front mount intercooler and relocated radiator. It also has a microtech computer, 2 fuel pumps, 1600cc primaries and 850cc secondaries and a full exhaust w/o a cat.

I don't have any of my own pics yet but here is the auction:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...ht_1022wt_1165

Two questions tho for more experienced FD enthusiasts:

1. The car is currently tuned to run on 100 octane gas which is very hard to find in Bklyn. If I run it on 93 is there any chance of damage to the engine? If so how much should it cost to have the car re-tuned for 93 octane?

2. The car has a fairly large turbo that comes on about 4500rpm. It has a lot of power but there is huge amounts of lag. My goal with this car is to have an almost daily driver (at least for the summer) that makes good power without too much lag. Is it a expensive job to swap the T66 for a smaller or faster spooling turbo? Any suggestions on which turbo?

Thanks!

Neil

Congrats. To answer your first question, you can get by on 93 if you stay out of boost. If you get into boost running 93, all bets are off. You have a good chance of screwing something up.

As for turbos, depends on what your power goals are. Gt35 bb turbo has been recommended by a lot here.

I'm not sure if you realized it but the car is a 93. I would get it checked out before making it a daily driver.

Looks like you damn near stole that thing if you got it for $8100.00! Even with a down market that is a good buy on a silver 94.

Looks great, put on some new wheels and let IRP take care of the car and you will be good to go.

Thanks guys. I am really excited about this car.

Polak... I thought you were sold your chaste white? Did u change your mind?

I am thinking about new wheels but I want to make sure the reliability is taken care of first.

So far the only problem I see is the right headlight is out. The PO put HIDs in and I am trying to figure out how to troubleshoot. It idles well, a little blue smoke on startup but otherwise no smoking.

I got it for $8500. Hopefully I don't find any major problems.
