just got an FD
just got an FD
hello. i just got a 3rd gen 93 fd two days ago. i didn't have any questions but i just wanted to say that.. DAMN. i love this car. i traded my old sr20det powered 240sx for it.. i had hks coilovers, strut bars, sway bars, all possible suspension components, and the rx7 is faster, and MUCH better handling STOCK. and believe me.. my 240 handled pretty well and was pretty quick. the rx7 has near zero boost lag, the tranny is incredibly smooth, and a turn that would send my 240 sliding sideways, the rx7 would take no problem. 2nd gear, the motor spins the stock tires as if they were nothing. the car hugs the road better than an itr, and the sound of the rotary engine.. is oh so sexy. i must say i probably spent 3 hours driving around yesterday.. i just couldn't get enough.
yeah. its got one already. do you guys have any advice for a newbie... kinda absolute maintenance things to do.. and any advice on how to prevent boost spikes other than a boost controller?
Congats guys. Start by doing some search on maintenance and reliability mods, that will give you the time to learn more without paying $$$$. A boost gauge will show you that your boost levels are ok and your turbos are running fine. Keep in mind that oil for rotary engines is very important so you'll need to change it more often that a piston engine lets say at max 3000mile. I change mine every 1000km's. Also the oil filter must be changed every 3000miles or so and make sure your fuel filter is not bad. This is a start. Make sure that your new car runs fine, take it for a check up just to be sure.
And remember, an FD could be your best friend or your wrost enemy. It all depends on you.

Yes, congrats, I still remember the first day I got my 7...
"an Fd WILL be your best friend AND your worst enemy"

Welcome to the lust for 7 club. As keeping going fast I would like to suggest a few things. Change the oil about ever 2k miles, unless you live in cold weather, flush the radiator and add Water Wetter or something like it, 7's will over head in a flash. Always make time to warm and cool down the eng. Get a shop manual and get to know the systems of your car. Finally, if you make an mods to the eng. consider this, any power gains shorten the life of the eng and create more heat!! If you make any changes, think to replace the radiator and oil cooler systems first - cheap upgrades that will save you lots and lots of money down the road. Then you can start adding power! You might also subscribe to the rx7 tuner magazine that's coming out, it looks like it has lots of good stuff for us rotor heads.
