I'm an Insurance broker in Ca. Insurance rates vary widely depending on age, driving record and where you live. Telling someone else what you pay isn't going to help them. You need to make some calls in your area to check out rates.
If you are 17, and your parents let you buy an FD, they deserve to pay whatever it costs.

Holy F*ck
I was just tryin to be funny about the GPA thing. I've had a 4.0 for the last 5 years, and never knew to do anything with it.
Too late now, I just graduated.

Constant threat
17 with an FD.......you will be lucky to survive it....seriously. So MANY times we see some kid post about getting his car, then within a few weeks we see the "Dudes, I completely fucked up my car...it's TOTALED!" post.
I wish that insurance was a little more fair, that the companies would at least give you a chance to prove yourself (one way or the other!). Let's say you start out with a base $1000 per year, if you stay "clean" it remains at that rate. If you **** up, it should double.
Then double again, and again, and again until you get the hint that you have to be cool.
There was an article in Rotary Rocket or another mag I read years ago saying that high insurance rates WERE a contributing factor to the demise of the importation of the FD. Rates of $4K to $6K per year were very common.
Ridiculous to pay such a high percentage of the car's value EACH year.
When I insured my car, it was ranked second only to BMWs in terms of cost. The Bimmers were high due to high theft rate, or so my agent told me. The FD is high due to the "high performance nature" of the car. Direct quote. I get discounts for multiple vehicles, home owner, high deductible, no claims for the past 10 years +, second vehicle used for "occasional/less than 50 miles per week", airbag, antilock brakes, etc. and still pay almost a grand a year. At 42 years of age.
Good luck, you will need it.

That's a lot of money for insurance alright...makes me feel better about what I'm payin' for mine! That was the first thing I did before looking for an RX7...figure how much I'd be payin' for insurance. The RX7 is listed as a secondary car (non commute) with coverage of $100K bodily injury,, same for uninsured motorist $50K damage liability, and same for uninsured motorists, $250 deductible. I'm payin' currently $325/month for an RX7 and a Honda Civic. That's with 1 speeding, 1 stop sign, 1 HOV violation, and 1 reckless driving.

Blow up or win
When I got my first policy in 1993, the rates were so low I could not believe it. Sooooooo... I just shut up and paid it for about a year and a half. I thought it was because I was such a boy scout.
Then they tripled.
What happened?
Since the car was so new they only had it listed as a 1.3 liter engine. Then some smart *** underwriter figured out it was a twin turbo with 255 hp. ****.
Seriously guys, if you can afford to spend $6K (or Daddy can) for insurance why not just buy a new car? For $500 a month there is some pretty damn nice iron out there. And there is no ROI (Return On Investment) on an insurance policy. At least by making payments you are getting a little equity, and a new car won't eat you alive on headaches, parts and mechanic's bills like a used FD3S will. Of course new cars have 0 sex appeal.
Kids........go figure. Literally.
