Just got a 94 r2 fd need advice about insurance

I just bought a 94 r2 fd and i was wondering how much the insurance is going to cost. Im 17 i never got a ticket and have 3.0 gpa in school. I was also wondering how much it would cost if i put it under my dads name but it would still be my car. My insurance is travelers so anyone else out there plz lend some advice.

you bought it without knowing how much insurance will cost? I would think it'd run you a few grand a year if listed as your primary car.

Yesterday, you posted that you just bought a 93 R1. Which is it?

BTW, just call your damn insurance company, they'll tell you for free and you'll actually get an accurate answer. I hope you have a big supply of KY (astrolube for RonKMiller...).

If ignorance is bliss, you must be one happy kid.....

definately put it under you parent's name. it would've been $300 under a month in my name now it's only $200 under my dads name. $1200 difference per year

No, sorry, he does not get ANY lubrication, whatsoever.
He's going to **** his pants anyway when Daddy gets the bill. I admit I did some pretty stoopid things when I was 17 but..........

Do insurance companies often take your GPA into account? I would have stayed awake in school

lot's of insurance companies give some sort of good grade discount but I'm not sure if a 3.0 would do anything significant

when i almost purchased an fd last august, i contacted my insurance agency twice and they quoted me both times at 180 a month and 20 a month when i store it, for full coverage that is

it all depends on who your agency is, and BTW, i am also 17 years old, clean record, and 3.12 GPA so who knows

I can't believe you got a car with out knowing insurance. Anyways I have a 94 FD R2 and I work for auto insurance. Rates are going to be sky high. Put it under your parents name which is what you are going to have to do until you are 18. I'd stay under your parents policy until you are 25 years old. Anymore questions give me a PM. I can't run you a quote because you are in Va and I'am in Texas. Good Luck!

An interesting thing came to light here in WA state last month about being on the rents' policy. Turns out, if your car is on their policy but you DON'T live at home (i.e. go away for school) you may not be covered. You need to get a slpit location policy, or the company will deny your claim if you have one. FURTHER, if the company can show that you are not dependent upon your parents for your existence (something like 90%), you MAY NOT be covered in an accident. Happened to a kid on Progressive ins, but Alstate said the same thing when I asked. Make SURE you ask the agant about this, or you'll end up owing BIG outta the pocket.

get a beater car for $100(it does not need to run) list that as your primary and list the FD as your weekend driver. That will be the best $100 you ever spent.

i'm 23, 24 in a couple of months and i pay 2800. because i managed to slip the car under my moms policy even though the car (94 fd) is under my moms name (long story, it worked, soughta). a year later the insurance company manages to tell us that there a to many cars under my moms policy (5) and now they want the rx7 gone. now i have to put it under my name and i sweriously can't afford it, so i plan on selling the rx7 unless a miracle comes up and my insurance doesnt go up that much. i have 2 points and it was in another carr (if it matters).

IF you are 24 with only 2 points, you are getting screwed! Look around, you'll find much better prices than that. Damn.

To show you what you have to look forward to, I pay $700/year with Allstate for full coverage near Oakland, CA. Pays to be married and 27 with a clean record.

I would again like to reitterate this for those who want to register a FD as a primary car but want to save money.
