Just got a $3300. FD

I just got my first 7, it is a 93 touring m/t and it needs alot of help. It's a roller with no motor tranny is still there and all drivetrain parts. I picked up a motor on ebay already so I will hope to have this thign running in the near future maybe a few months off.

The interior is in need of repair, seems that most hinges and clips are broken. Both door handles are broken gas popper door doesnt release, gauge custer didnt light up when I put power to it. Needs to be repainted, Has all the common issues.

Im pretty familiar with these cars I've wanted one for the last 6 or 7 years. This will never be my daily driver, plan on just making it a fun fast versatile sports car.

Anyone in Austin who wants to help me out let me know hahah.

Here are some pictures.

Looks like you have nice project car. If you have the time, patience, and money it should deffinetly be worth it. What are your plans for the car?? Race?? Weekend Warrior??

Probably more of a weekend warrior car with a nice sleeper touch, I'm pondering even flat blacking it. Ocassional trips to the drag strip auto-x every now and then some fun country road driving.

Plan on keeping the stock twins for a while see what I can get out of them. Not sure which route I wanna go with engine management, power fc seems to be the most popular but honestly I haven't read enough about it to decide yet.

I agree! If you've got a nice paint job why flat black the car?? You don't need flat paint to look like a sleeper! By now I expect a fast car when I c flat paint...

Correct it is not a civic hatchback, it is a sports car. I'm not really into fancy shiny cars and the price and headache that comes with them. I'd rather spend my money on making the car more reliable more capable and a overall better car. Four thousand dollars for paint job just is viable at the moment.

The paint is not good on my fd, looks awful in my opinion.

I researched the buyer before the purchase of the motor, heard good things on the forums.

By adding more than one question mark does it make it more of a question?

I enclosed a picture of my old tsi from a few years back that I flat blacked and loved.

My thoughts exactly. It is a project car plain and simple, but then again 90% of FD's are anyways. It will be a clean car when im completely done with it. Spare your opinions on the paint job, everyone has there own style and taste. Once the car is fully operational I will decide if it is worth getting it painted. But right now I could honestly care less.

Here is a link to the motor I purchased Click me.

On a side note, I fixed the gas popper door today this thing should be running in no time...... haaaaa. Thanks for the positive input so far.

While you are to be commended on your enthusiasm for your project, I would caution you to not let your exuberance override common sense and decency.
NO car looks good in flat black in my opinion. It looks exactly like what it is....a cheap "fix" for major cosmetic issues and a look that is 'oh-so-ricer'. That TSI looks like crap (once again, my opinion). But then again I take it you are pretty young and maybe that sort of thing appeals to you and the crowd you roll with. The way I see it you will get MUCH more approval from everyone you encounter if you take the time to do it right, meaning get the car running reliably, then or along with, get the proper interior/exterior replacement parts as far as hinges, switches, covers, panels, etc. go. So what if the MBM paint is a little faded or "looks like ****"? I can GUARANTEE you that even faded and "looking like ****" it will look FAR better than some half-*** rattle can spray job.
If you've not been there yet, take the time to go to the '3rd Gen Parts For Sale' section, there are a lot of cars being parted out now and you can likely pick up a lot of what you need. But then again, there always seems to be these cars/parts around, so it is not critical to have to purchase all this right away.
What other major drivetrain parts are you missing? I see a host of turbo parts, an air pump, a cross member...lots of stuff in those photos that is kind of strung out everywhere.
There are bolts and nuts and clips and hoses galore that will be a nightmare for you without some help from an experienced FD owner. You've come to the right place for advice and help. This will be SO cool if you can take the car the way it is and make it into a good to excellent automobile again. Take some pics along the way so you can show the non-believers in the future what it was you started with, and what you ended up with.

The flat black was just a thought, a small thought hardly etched in stone yet. I'd rather get it resprayed montego blue no question, we will see how much it cost to get this thing back up and running first though.

I plan on taking my time collecting used parts and waiting for good deals, no need to rush this project. I like doing things once correctly. And yes it does basically look like a nightmare, but im pretty sure I can figure it all out, but the help of a local guy would be great. I think all the drive train parts are there. The deal was the dumb kid paid some local rx7 place to replace the motor they got half way done with it and realized it was way to much money.

Baja this is my last car, think it looks like crap?

You said your going for the "sleeper look" with the flat black paint. Its a 3rd gen RX7, it cant be a sleeper. Anyone that knows even alittle about cars knows that these are a fast car, even in stock form. Its like saying your gonna make a new vette a sleeper by painting it flat black.

Good luck with the project though, nothings more satisfying than building something from scratch with your own blood, sweat, and tears.
