If you install them incorrectly, you will have to rebuild the motor. Most of the other pulley kits do not make you mess with the eccentric shaft....

Read about it here....

Other than what Rynberg posted, getting the main pulley off is a bitch. Other than that, you don't have to worry about anything else, timing and A/F mixtures are affected.

main pulley is easy to get off...just four 10mm bolts....nevermind, just eliminate your ps/ac and you don't have to buy a main pulley, just take off the front half of the OEM one

the rotary extreme, pettit, or rx7.com main pulley would be a better choice. You don't have to remove the eccentric shaft nut to replace. The UR pulley you do and that is the drawback to it's design.

Also I thought that the pulleys underdrive the alternator and your water pump. Whould that be an issue?

It's mainly only an issue if you like your A/C cold and/or want to run a large stereo setup. If you don't care for either of those, the underdrive pulleys won't hurt ya.

UR pulley set

This post just saved me a pile of trouble. I was about to order the UR set as a Xmas gift to myself. It did not occur to me to consider the difference in the UR maindrive pulley. I do not want to be fooling with a large, hard-to-remove bolt on the e-shaft while the motor is in the car. Think I will go with one of the other sets.

I just got the pulleys today and they look really nice but Im wounding if these pulleys are really worth it. $450 plus $140 installation coast, for that price I could get the despritly needed ecu. Will these pulleys get me the power gains listed from 16-20 hp on the stock engine or does the engine have to be aready modified to get those power gains. Also I noticed that the main drive pulley is really small. It looks about 70% smaller then the stock one, it just looks like a problem.

Is your pulley in undersize unorthodox pulley.??

Cause if it is you might have to find a smaller belt to fit it on.

I still think putting all that modification on right at the same moment might be or cause a problem to your car.

You might want to put one modification on at a time and see how your car reacts to it.
Here is a site that can help you out on modification for your FD-----

The pulleys are undersize and I guess your right to put one thing on at a time. And I understood that I would have to buy diffrent belts but there common thou, not a hassle.

I dont think your gains will be 15-20 hp, those rating are usaly on highly moded motors. You will get some gain tho, more if you get the alluminum. Pulleys are used to free up hp by less wight that the motor has to spin. Its like the same thing with a allum fly wheel. Try spinning a 45 pound wight plate and then spin a frisby and ypu can see where the power goes. Pulles are also undersized which makes the rotation on your water pump, alt, and power stering slower, and diverting the rest of that power ultimatly to the wheels.

Yes. If you did not push the flywheel forward with a board or something while having the main pulley off, chances are that bearing dropped. You can check by rebuilding the motor... Sorry man.

Thanks. That was the beginning of (the end?) single install. It really looks messy, but it's finally starting to come together. I'm still waiting on a few parts and still trying to figure a few things out.
My friend was kind enough to polish my parts for me.

How is you install and setup going?

David,

Did you have to remove the bolt to install the pulley from UR? On the UR site, it looks like you do, but I can't really tell.

Pretty good actually. I need to do a little modding on the manual steering rack mounts and then I can drop the motor back in.. I just never have time. Everything else is ready to go. HOPEFULLY I'll have the motor in this weekend. Then it's just a matter of hooking up the harness! YAY!

Compressor housing looks great!

I did push the flywheel forward and just installed the UR main pulley with out any issues. Half of it was luck so i do suggest pushing the flywheel forward if you are going to. I would think if you have installed the pulley and havnt noticed any issues your i nthe clear.
