1st off Congrats!
Depends on what you want to do to it...

Do the reliablity mods right away. Do some research on the board to find out how to do them (i.e. AST, fan switch, etc...).

Then once those are done, time to start your quest for horses!

GOOD LUCK!

Start saving money for rainy days (rx7 repairs, and upgrades)
But watch out: ONCE STARTED MODIFYING YOU CAN'T STOP
(IS ADDICTIVE)
Good luck.

welcome to the club! I just got mine two weeks ago. I haven't had a chance to borrow a dig camera and take pics yet.

How many miles are on it? My radiator went out at 77,000miles

The MAIN problem with FD's are the temps under the hood. Get a turbo timer and hook that thing up! Let your car warm up for about 3-4 mins before taking it out. For about the first 3/4-1 mile dont shift above 3krpm. see the website posted about the reliability mods fr more info. Make sure u just take care of it and change oil every 2,000-2,5000 miles. GOOD LUCK AND HAVE FUN!

You know that is a weird coincidence because mine went out right around 77,000 miles too.

No, no... It's not something that automatically goes out at 77,000 miles, although it a weak spot in the cooling system, it's just a coincidence that mine and his both went out at 77,000 miles. Most people cosider upgrading the radiator as a reliability mod, meaning just to be safe they usually take care of it before it causes bigger problems, because again, it has plastic end tanks that are known to crack..

welcome to the club, and congrats on your FD.

but i find one thing quite interesting. did you not do any research on the car before you bought it? its a wise thing to do some research on any car, let alone the FD, before you buy one. from you asking the infamous "first mod" question, im assuming you did not do any (or enough) research on the car itself. (if you did spend time doing some research, you would not have asked this question. instead, you would have known what to do ) do you know what you are getting into with this car?? do you know about its reputation??

anyways, good first mods are always small things that have to do with reliability. things like a turbo timer, downpipe, bigger radiator, aluminum (or eliminated) AST, boost gauge, water temp. gauge, EGT gauge...things like that. then you could work your way up to an exhaust sytem, remapped or standalone ECU, intercooler, midpipe...things that will increase the reliability of the car even more.

but it seems to me that you did not do your homework before buying this car, so dont be shocked if you see some four digit repair bills in the very near future. hopefully, that is not the case.

I did some homework before I bought it and I know that it's not the most "reliable" car in the world. I've also read and heard plenty of horror stories, but I wanted advice on what I should immediately spend my money on. I'm already going to get my turbo timer tomorrow and I'll find out if they have down pipes.
