Question Just bought my first Rx-7 and new to this forum...please help

After a year in the Supra TT world I have crossed over to the world of the Rx-7. I just purchased a 93 5spd. with 33K bone stock. To be honest, I'm not looking to race the car, so I want to do the reliability upgrades and then go cosmetic. I was hoping to get some advise on the following, which are the mods I am planning on...

1. Catback exhaust
2. Downpipe(reccomendations)
3. Radiator (reccomendations)
4. Guages
5. Turbo timer

If there is anything else you guys can suggest please reply.

Thanks in advance

Joe

1. Depends on how much noise you wanna make. Quiet storm- Racing Beat . Attention getter- Apexi N1 or N1 Dual. In between-GReddy SP.
2. I used a ghetto model made from the stock downpipe with the precat chopped out. Maybe someone else can give a better recommendation. Models avail. by rx7.com, HKS, M2, SRx7.com, Rx7 Fashion, etc., etc.
3. Fluidyne radiator
4. Water temp, oil press., boost minimum.
5. I suppose any of the big name mfgrs. turbo timers will do.

You should probably get an intake too. Apexis seem to be popular. I just plugged a couple of k&n cone filters onto the intake hoses after I removed the airbox. Much cheaper.

6. Intake
7. ECU
8. Tie wrap job
9. Replace all hoses (if you have the $$)

That is all.

thanks guys...What is the concensus on the ECU? Is it something I need if I only want do do the exhaust system and radiator? If I do the cat back and DP should I also do the midpipe? I had a FMIC on my Supra, would a FMIC on this car require a fuel upgrade? I'm not to crazy about aftermarket intakes sucking up hot engine air, I was thinknig of a K&N replacement filter. Thanks Again!!

i think it would be smart to upgrade your fuel managment with those mods at least to m2 stage 2 levels..ive seen some pop thier engines with intake, dp and cb...my experience with the midpipe is you get that huge hop in hp but with the stock twins you will get boost creep and i felt a slight dead spot before the second turbo kicked in..not to mention your inability to pass smog..some say with every two mods you should upgrade your fuel management..(of course depending on how big the mod)..but enjoy the new 7 though..be prepared for the worst!!

Check out www.robrobinette.com! They have a list of how-tos, and a Reliability Upgrades section, that should cover everything Sidestick and Mister7 didn't cover.
The removal of the precat is essential since the precat fills the engine bay with lots of heat (made worse by a turbo) and it bakes all of the stuff in there until it cracks and **** breaks.
Take good care of your FD. Very few good ones are left...

My question would be will you be doing the work on your car ? ? ?
Follow two mod rule or you won't be doing much more with your motor any way.
Two mod rule applies to anything that affects the air/fuel mixture. No in order of questions but .......
1.)Radiator I recomend the Fluidyne as it's a no brainer direct bolt in for stock Koyo (good alternative takes several trial fits to get all the trimming and bending right.
2.) Pettit S.S. downpipe is an easy bolt in Make sure to wrap or coat it as this helps in under hood temps.
3.) Cat back for good flow and nice tone but not too loud would be either the M-2, or Racing Beat dual tip. (I prefer the M-2 but got a Racing Beat I've heard both and seen dyno results with RB. cat back.
4.)I'd go with the high-flow cat from N-1 98% of the flow of a mid pipe but will squeak you by emissions.
5.) Cold air intake would be the M-2 Carbon fiber, allows room for a nice stock mount intercooler and works well.
6.) Gauges would be your preference anything is better than the stock ones. If you get the PFC then you'll have all the information on the commander readout. Hope we can help you out, Jack

Get a BOOST Guage!

You can't keep the turbos running smooth unless you know what they are doing!
