Just bought my first rotary

I just bought my first rotary this week. I love this car. You guys might think I bought it too early since I'm only 20 but I loved it too much. It's already been modified by the previous owner and he claims its doing 300HP though I still need to do a dyno. It needs a paint job but that is about it. It was rebuilt with a street ported engine 7,000 km ago and currently has 136,000 km on the odometer. I hope winter takes its sweet time to come so I can enjoy it before I have to store it. A list of mods follows...

rebuilt engine with street port and 3mm apex seals
upgraded Bully clutch
Walbro 255lph fuel pump
dual filter K&N intake with heat sheild
3'' down pipe and 3'' cat back exhaust
Pettit ecu
H&R sport springs
Hawk hp plus brake pads
Apex-i turbo timer
Autometer boost gauge
Brand new tires 245/45/16
Brand new OEM rad 500km ago
Clarion head unit with 4 clarion speakers
Pivot headlight controller (sleepy eye look)
strut tower brace

Here are some pictures that were taken by him because I seem to have misplaced my camera.

From what I read rotary's have to be well maintained. Dave from Mazdee's told me it needs an oil change every 5,000 km and spark plug change every 10,000 km since its a street port. Is there anything else I should know to extend this baby's life?

Glad to be part of the club

That's not the answer I was looking for XD. I put 300 km on it the first day It was legal to drive (the day after I bought it). I'm just scared I'm going to break it since I don't know much about the car.

If you're scared you might break it from driving it, i suggest selling it cause these cars are old, they WILL break eventually. Some people are unlucky cause they get a swirl of problems one after the other, some people are lucky and its only a small problem they can fix themself.

Im just saying get ready and enjoy her while she's running good cause its like the great depression when she's down.

I live at Dufferin and Lawrence behind the McDonalds (Mulholland Avenue). The car is in the driveway if you pass by. I bought it on Monday and already used over a tank and a half a of gas >.< (premium of course). I was at Mazdee's on Tuesday at around 2:30 pm doing the Safety and installing strut bar.

I did have a question though. I noticed the throttle isn't smooth at accelerating when your trying to do a slow start and sometimes does what I call the "rodeo". I remember when my friend bought an FC that it did the same thing (only worse) so basically you had to floor it from keeping it from doing the "rodeo". Is this a rotary thing or just a worn pedal because these cars are old? Thanks for the responses guys ^_^.

Like it seems the very tip of the accelerator isn't sensitive. If you apply very light pressure when just wanting to crawl the car sometimes it starts jumping since when the throttle opens it opens more abruptly then I'm used to on other cars. On the FC it was horrible to the point where I just wouldn't accelerate lightly. On my FD its quite a lot better but was wondering if I could fix it if its a worn accelerator or something. I guess next time I go to Mazdee's I'll ask him about it.

Also, should a street ported engine be able to idle at .7-.9k RPM like a normal engine? Sometimes it idles there but sometimes it idles at 1.4-1.5k RPM when stopped. Oddly if I turn on the heater full blast and off again, it sometimes makes it go to 1k RPM or below but not always. Is that normal for a street port or is it something else?

WHen I turn on the heat my idle does the same thing. Your using more power so the car has to work harder, well thats what I think at least.

Yah, I think that too but it goes from 1.5k to 1k, shouldn't it be the other way around?
