Just bought a 93...few questions.

Hey everyone. Im new here. I just bought a 93 rx-7 yesterday. The only problem with it really is the tach. Sometimes it works...sometimes it doesnt. It will work then like 5 min later......it will just fall. Then it will pop back up again. Im sure it's a wire loose somewhere...well i think anyway. If it is a loose wire...How do i fix this? It just gets irritating seeing that. Also is there anything i should know about these cars that will help me a good bit? Also...what are some good mods i can do to reduce the chances of overheating....besides single turbo upgrade. Thanks alot. Im sure you all will be a great help to me.

i never heard of going single turbo to reduce the chances of overheating. just use 25-30%coolant and make air ducts to force more air thru the radiator as well as doing the fan mod (by rigging a switch to ground the fan relays) and you should be fine. The tach problem is a common thing, just take off the steering wheel (to do this just look in the back of the steering wheel and there are 3 rubber plugs, take them off and there are 3 bolts holding in the airbag, take those off and then disconnect the airbag, after thing just unscrew the steeringwheel and yank it off) and the 2 bolts that hold on the instrument pannel (which are located at the bottem corners of the instrument pannel) and just pull it off, look for the crappy cold solder that came from the factor and re-do them. The scariest part about doing this is taking out the airbag. (Airbags scare the hell out of me!) MAKE SURE THE BATTERY IS DISCONNECT BEFORE TAKING APART/OFF THE AIRBAG!!!

get a manual or go to iluvmyrx7.com and dl the manual from there. (I personnaly suggest buying the manual, I got 2 )

Good luck dude and welcome to the forums

another mod that i have heard of and some of my friends have done is a hood mod. what you do is take off the screws off the hood. take the two nuts (one on each side) that are nearest the back of the car and screw them straight onto the hood. then put the braket back on the two crew heads nearest the front of the car back and screw the nuts back on. this will tilt the hood up and creat more of a gap at the back of the hood. the hood release still works right and it still pops up like it should. another one that my friend did on both of his cars is cut the insulation over the wheel well right next to the air box, this will push more air into the engine bay.

negative sir, true it will let more air in to the enginebay but not thru the radiator where you need it more to cool of the engine, air to metal cooling is not gonna cool your engine. If you could put your airfilters in the rear of the engine bay near the firewall like the nascar guys do, then you could get a colder intake charge that way but it will not let more air go thru your radiator, if anything i think it will lessen the flow thru the radiator. it create a low airpressure area there, there have been videos to prove this. what you gotta try to do is to get more cold air thru the radiator and not in to the engine bay.
another option is to get a bigger radiator (duh hehe)

I had exactly the same tach problem. It eventually failed. It was replaced under warranty and was diagnosed "unrepairable".

I think it was about $900 (new from Mazda).

SSR comps. are a good wheel, but also try volk racing's te73. They are a bit more expensive, but well worth it

sorry but there is no way to adjust them. just get a smaller steering wheel, I personnaly hate the stock wheel and airbag. I'm 5"6 just about and I seem to fit inside perfectly (even better now with a grant 13.5 inch grant steeringwheel) but others that are over 5"9' seem to be too big for a FD.

good luck

Good luck
