just another smoking problem, input needed

I tried searching this but have had no luck so I am making this thread. So I purchased this used motor from some local guy. I ended up putting it in about a month ago. Ever since I put it in the car it has been smoking. Now the symptoms are that the car smokes at start, idle, and when it warms up it does not go away. I thought it was the turbo (I have a single) so i removed the wheel from the housing and there was no oil leaking. The seals seam to be good; there was no oil in the down pipe, turbo housing or manifold. I checked the intercooler pipes and they were all clean also. There seems to be a lot of sooty build up on the parts. I then checked the spark plugs and there was no oil on them just the same sooty carbon build up.

So I ruled the turbo out and also the oil control rings b/c there is no oil in the exhaust manifold or in the intake mani, spark plugs. I also have the 2 nipples on the oil filler open so it is not the pcv valve.

I was then thinking that it might be a leaking injector. I hooked up a fuel press gauge to my regulator and right after I shut the car off the fuel pressure starts to drop. In the first 15 min it is down to 10psi or under. I don’t know if this is normal or not but would this cause the smoking issue. Also on the initial start up it takes a few seconds for the motor to catch, which I’ve heard might be associated with leaking injectors.

One more thing it is not the coolant seals, the smoke is not a sweet smell it is just a very strong exhaust smell. I will have some pics of the turbo wheel, exhaust housing, sparkplugs tomorrow.

If anyone has any input I would appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

i'm guessing it's white smoke then right? oil would cause a bluish color smoke.....

my guess is that it would be a broken coolant seal....something you can't test for unless it's bad enough and you're getting exhaust in the cooling system

what you can do is pressure test your cooling system if it's bad enough

its not really white smoke its more like gray smoke. i dont think its the coolant seal. the smoke does not smell like coolant.
