Jus Purchased My First 3rd Gen RX-7
I'm finally glad to be apart of something I consider unique, exotic and special. I turned 16 years old in 1994 and was already in love with RX-7. Now, 13 years later, I finally own one. Here are the details:
1993 RX-7 R1 Twin Turbo
5 Speed
26,000 original miles
Efiny Y-Pipe
Eibach Springs
HKS Turbo Timer
HKS Racing Suction Intake Kit
Mazda 5th Gear Synchro Upgrade
Pettit Racing Boost Gauge Kit
Pettit Racing AST
Pettit Racing Vacuum Lines
Pettit Racing Grounding Wire Kit
Racing Beat Dual Tip Cat-Back Exhaust
Tokico 5-Way Adjustable Shocks
**** I do have a question....how in the hell do you change the tail-light bulbs on this thing?
All comments welcome.

Open the trunk, unscrew the black panel just in front of the rear lights, this will allow you to access the two screws that hold the light in. Don't pull up or back, use your thumb and gently push outwards or use you fingers to pull. I use my thumbs, for example the passenger side, I stand on the left and push with my thumbs on the top and rear of the light, you'll feel it give and then you can just pull it out, the first time I did my tail lights I shot the light out and it hung by the harness, luckily I did not hurt anything. Hey, nice car, the paint looks really nice. Clean too. Most people don't have the battery cover anymore. Myself, I turned 16 then as well. Now I have my RX-7. So cool !

TurboTagTeam, I agree. Make sure you read this forum like mad. Anything you think could go wrong put it in the search line and start reading. Looks like whoever owned it before you did some good mods already. AST, vacuum lines, etc. Get yourself an aftermarket Radiator. Use all trailing plugs, change out your fuel filter every year. Don't run that oil past 3000 miles, I know people who change it more often than that, coolant every year, blah blah, you get the point. Just read, thats all. Have fun.
Thanks
Thanks....I think. Thanks for the advice KMAR. TurboTagTeam guy is trying to scare me it looks like.
I plan on using this as a weekend pleasure but I've already found it hard to stay away from it. I have a Ducati 748 as well and since my 2 year old son was born I haven't been on it the first time....and now I also have a 7 week old son.
I wanted to buy a vehicle with a few reliability upgrades done and that hadn't been abused. The guy I bought it from bought from a 79 year old eye doctor back in 1998 who had bought it new but never drove because he didn't know what he had bought. The guy I bought it from never had time for it. He paid his loan off in 2001 and the title he handed me shows the odometer as 24,200 miles. I bought Saturday with 26,748 miles. Never wrecked or anything. Just couldn't pass this one up. I've been seriously looking for on for about 6 months but have wanted one for 13 years.

The guy I bought it from gave me receipts where he took the car to Jeff Sikes Mazada in Huntsville, AL and they Upgraded the 5th gear. From what I understand the RX-7s have had a huge 5th gear sync problem. I don't have the receipt in front of me right at this moment but I believe it cost like $450.00 to replace, upgrade or whatever.
Nice car, welcome to the club!
Uh....I don't see any mention of a downpipe in your mods list.....surely that is an omission?
If not, I would consider getting one pretty soon.....
Looks great!

You're right....$18,000 and he threw in all the original parts that he had replaced plus a new HKS Computer that he never got around putting on the car...oh and a new car cover.

Can you put a rear seat in these things? I saw one down in New Orleans last year that a small back seat in it. Is that a custom thing or an actual option for this car?

I think it is actually factory in Japan. Just need to find the parts to do it. costly and heavier, but worth it if you want to have the little guys with you.
Yup the rear seat was standard in other countries and was a 'must have' for me cause my son was 3 when I bought my car. They were not an option for the US model cars but the cars all have the same bolt holes in the body. It took me about 6 months to find one that was in perfect condition but I got a lot of extras with mine. Your looking at anywhere from $250-$500 with seat belts, panels, and seats. I don't think that is costly in the big scheme of things. They bolt right in. I find them quite handy at times.
Beautiful FD!... Great find!... Congratulations!...

Thanks for the replies and I look forward to talking with you guys about this great machine. Also, like I said, this will be a weekender and pleasue ride, and when I pleasure ride I like to do long trips. Would like to pass through some of your areas sometime and meet up with any local FD clubs or Tuner Clubs. I usually ride in AL, TN, GA, NC, MS, FL and sometimes LA. Again thanks for the invite to the forum.
