Jspec engine info

I'm interested in a rx7 and the dealer says the engine has been replaced by a jspec engine...which they say is 305hp. Is this true? Sorry I'm new to the rx7s...I've already read the rx7 info. I just wanted a repsonce from rx7 owners. Also do you feel this car is a good price? Here's the link if it helps:

Its bs, even if they got a used 99+spec motor/turbo and ecu, i think they are rated at 280. And if they did that conversion, it would cost more than their asking price. I think they are saying that the engine is replaced with a used japanese motor. but dont believe the 305hp, you should make sure if the car even has a new engine and see which shop put it in. I would call the shop directly and ask them about the engine, but if car dealer say that they put it in, i would just walk away.

From what I understand all they did was add aftermarket products such as dual intake system, custom exhaust and etc.... You can easy get 305 hp from few simple mods. thats what I think they did, put a few bolt-on in there and boom..........a 305hp rx-7.

I would bet it has a Mazda Remanufactured engine in it, the same design as every US spec RX-7. The dealer has no clue, I repeat no clue what he is talking about. First, read this to see the difference between the US 93-95 and Japanese 99-02 motors.

Print out the part written by Jack Yamaguchi - and the dealer will see that he is full of ****. Most of the added power (or "horses" as this idiot says) from the new Jspec "engine" comes not from the engine core itself, but rather from the new turbos and a better intake. Guess how I know. If the car really does have a Jspec engine but retained the US turbos... it will have the same power output. I wonder if the US spec 8bit computer can even control the Jspec oil metering system? And a 2002 Jspec RX7 has mmore like 280 flywheel horsepower, assuming the conversion from PS to HP is very close.

By the way, that car is missing the lower lip on the front bumper - this is often a sign that it was in an accident. Other than that the car might be OK, nothing wrong with the US motors... but if the guy is lying about the motor you have to wonder what else is BS. Or, he just doesn't know what he's talking about, and the car has a couple of bolt-on mods that could easily add up to 305 flywheel horsepower.

Caveat emptor.

Thanks for the info guys. Coulthard Fan thanks for the article, gave me more insight on Rx7s. The dealer didn't know the car at all. I asked if the turbos were rebuilt since a new engine has been replaced...he didn't really know what the hell I was talking about. Anyways, I'll keep my eyes peeled for a nicer 7. I'm going to check this one out, just to get an idea...Thanks again.

Hi

I don't think there are more than two types motors in the same yaer.
J-spec motor and US motor itself are all the same.
Because when browsing a parts list, there is just one housing,
one rotor, one apex-seal and so on.
Of course 99+ motor and turbine are different from previous ones.
I have been asked about this so many times.
Generally, FDs in Japan have more power.
I think ECU modifying are better.
For example, RE-A has about 100 data maps for stock ECU.
And a downpipe has better quality.
Then, many rotary motors have more power.
There is another example.
Whe rebuilding motor, Mazda tells 0.04mm side housing clearance.
RE-A rebuilds motor with 0.01mm side housing clearance.

Thanks
