joining the club: purchasing advice?

hey... i've been lurking for 7 months now and i've gone from ruling out the 7 because it's impractical to settling on it because it's impractical as someone said to me, you only get two real chances to own a two seater - when you're real young and when you're real old. i've thought the rx-7 was a neat car for a while (back when i liked the camaro iroc-z too) and now i'm actually in a position where i can buy one.

my goal for the next few years at least is to have a kickass daily driver, until i can retire the car to weekend track warrior. (note: track, not drag strip) i'd much rather get 100k out of the engine than be able to run 12's.

the question is - does it make more sense to pay more for a car with low miles (i.e. the red one currently for sale on PFS's website), or to buy one with higher miles (i.e. the blue one on PFS's website) and spend the price difference on an engine swap/reliability mods? for instance, a $16k car on the original engine with 77k miles or a $22k car with new engine/turbos, 10k miles on the new stuff and 80k on the body?

i'm thinking i'll either keep digging until i find one with low miles, or get an older one and (maybe) immediately swap in one of those 5year/60k mile warrantied engines along with the standard "reliability mods" mentioned on the web and on here. but i don't really have a plan of attack yet.

thanks for any advice!

Uh, I'd say buy the 95 PFS has for sale. That's one damn sweet car. Don't pay $27k for it though...

Get that. Do the basic, basic performance mods. Do the reliability mods. Enjoy it as a daily for a couple years. Then turn it into a ******* animal. Enjoy.
