JimLab Bushing Tip #109403: how to separate

The ball joint and the tie rod joint.

Don't hammer the threaded end as this will compress the threaded tip and ruin the threads.

For the lower front control arm use the larger puller $7.99

For the steering unit, use the smaller puller $5.99

both available at http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=36861

You can use those. They work pretty well. Another option is a Spanish tie rod puller from an auto parts store. I've seen them sell both this and those two pulelrs you showed.

Which is why I have always advised using a throw-away nut threaded on to protect the threads and spare the castle nuts, but yes, pullers may work too.

Be advised that high mileage suspensions may need some heat applied and a lot of coaxing before press-fit joints like the ball joints and tie rod ends come loose.

I've tried using an old nut on the threads and hitting it. My experience with this is it will strip the threads on the bolt. Just buy a puller, its only like $20.
