JDM/USDM swapping?

Does the JDM rx7 motor bolt right up as the USDM motor does? is the wiring and other stuff the same or is it all reversed? Just looking for an easier way to fix my fd. not saying ill do it, but is being put into consideration. THX

Used JDM motors are a crapshoot - some of the better shops will get better motors, but you really don't know what you'll get.

Shortblocks are identical. Proper way to do it is to strip your old and new motors down to the shortblock, inspect everything, and build the longblock up with the best pieces. You can just drop a JDM motor as-is, but you have NO idea what condition any of the components are in if you do that.

Most JDM motors have cut wiring harnesses, so they're really only good as parts (ie, you can cut/splice connectors from it).

Well Dale got most of it. There is a extra wire in the jdm harness. Also When it comes to a FD dont cheap out on it becouse it will bite you in that *** later on down the road.

The last thing you want to do is drop 2k on a used engine install it and find out it has low compression.

I would contact Rotary Resurrection he will get you going with on the cheap if need be.
Lastly Good Luck

Part of my motor is a JDM 99 motor(rotors and housings I believe). But they striped the JDM motor and the old motor and built one with the best parts, so they made sure to go through and replace what needed to be replaced, and I am quite happy with it.

So your motor is toooooast? I hate to say it, but everyone told you not to run it in the condition you had it. Guess you should listen up a little more.

its not completely toast, i can still drive it , but it idles rough and only holds 3-5psi. although it feels as though the secondary turbo comes online. (i heard it takes at least 8psi to get it spinning) either way, I dont have 3-4k to drop on my motor, so im just looking for a temp fix. ive seen short blocks for 800-1400 used. but like you said I dont know the exact condition. And the shops around me give me the creeps. It seems that they would rather take advantage and say extra **** is broken to make extra money rather than fix whats wrong and let me spend the money on upgrades anyway.

And yes I know I should not have raced it but I didnt drive it any harder on the track then I would have on the street, so it would have broken ne ways.
