jdm stock ecu vs north american ecu
Maybe i havent been thinking with common sense but i have had my fd for 2 years now. Brought it over from japan. Took care of a lot of problems by just basic tuning and replacing old maintainence parts. I live here in calgary alberta and jus wondering if the ecu which was tuned for japan atmosphere and weather is just not suitable to run up here? considering 70 percent of right hand drive rx7s here run after market ecu. would the car run richer up here even during summer days ? we average around 20 to maximum 28 degrees celcius. And the weather is very unpredictable. Temperatures drop and rise randomly. So i guess getting right down to the point, are the rx7s running the north american ecu's running much better than my fd out of japan?

The US Spec ECU's are designed for the additional emissions equipment compared to the JDM ECU. The California spec has a different EGR system.
.
The ECU has a built-in barometric pressure sensor for weather and altitude-based compensations. See page F-11 and F-15 of the workshop manual. If anything, the stock ECU is calibrated better for weather changes than an aftermarket computer on a modified engine. Most aftermarket computers don't have barometric pressure compensations set up. The Power FC doesn't even have a barometric pressure sensor; you just have to do a lot of testing and build a proper safety margin into the tune.
