yes there is AUFAxxx for America (surprise the Miata is AUNAxx...) and an AJFAxx for Japan, AEFAxx for some English speaking left hand drive country in Europe. there should be a UK catalog, RHD with the EU emissions, and then Australia.

keep in mind that the original source is actually a parts book. in the USA the book (singular, one) got taken apart and photographed into Mirco-fish. Then they took the microfilm and copied that into the computer, so this is why some pictures are terrible quality. and then, since the original Electronic Parts Catalog (EPC), there have been 9 more that we know about. we're currently running GEPC II, Global Electronic Parts Catalog, non flash, in the USA. or the Snap On one.

so i guess its like music, it used to be live, then on the scroll of paper (or copper), and then record, 8 track, tape, CD, MP2, MP3, so there are a lot of ways to see the same data.

  • Touring X
  • Type RZ (4) - Same options as before, just in new 1996 spec.
  • Type RS - Same options as before and now includes 4.30 final drive.
  • Type RB Bathurst
  • Type RB - Appears to be the base model of this year.
  • Type RB Bathurst X - 700 units made. Projector type fog lights, special design rear wing, rear wiper, and special decal.
  • Type RS-R - 500 units made. Revealed in October 1997 after the change from "Efini RX-7" to Mazda RX-7 in Japan. Also the 30th anniversary of the rotary engine. A mix of the RZ and RS trims, only available in Yellow and White with gunmetal wheels. This car has a gauge cluster with the 30th anniversary design.
Does anyone happen to have a picture of the decal, or know of a place to buy them? My RB Bathurst X no longer has the decals on and I would like to either buy some or have them made. Figured I would post here rather than making a new thread. Thank you!

I believe the sales brochues for the BX and RBX show the b-pillar with the decal.

I have seen RZ B-pillar decals for sale on ebay. Maybe that source will know who might have the BX or RBX B-pillar decals.

Do you know which trims of the series 5 rx7s have 2 seats and which ones have 4 seats?

By Series 5 you mean Version 5, or are you asking about second generation FC?

Initial parts catalogue for Version 5 does not show any type having two seats.

For version 4 cars only the Type RZ (airbag and non-airbag) are shown to be two seaters (nininnori).

For version 6, The Spirit R Typa A and the Type RZ are shown to be two seaters.

It is possible that if there was a Version 5 Type RZ produced after the first parts catalogue, it may have been a two seater).

Also as the rear bins set up was generally available, it is possible that any type could have the rear bins switched in..

Chassis codes CAN be decoded, you just need to use mazda's database: https://support.mazda.co.jp/grade-search/

Go this link click the "Accept" button at the bottom, then on the next page enter the chassis code as "FD3S" + "6 digit number" in the two boxes, then click "Search"

For the differences in models 1-6, this site does a good summary, including a lot of minor details: https://onionworld.jp/spot/detail/1190695/news/6908

However, in general my 1992 model year was the nicest. It had a lot of nice, little things that were deleted on subsequent model years for presumably cost cutting reasons (felt lined glovebox, door panel reinforcements (plastic/rubber) to eliminate flex & lower rattling, finger groove in driver door pocket, etc.

That link is nice. I used the Russian vin decoder years ago that confirmed Type R etc, but i was always confused by my leather seats and acoustiwave system. I ran my vin throughyour link and it said factory leather seats with high reflection coating, super premium music system, and cold region specification. I have a sticker on the hatch glass saying that too - anyone know what that would change, or if all JDM are cold region?

I believe the cold region mods were stronger wiper blades, stronger wiper motor and the sticker. Perhaps all season tires?

The car may have been designated Type M or Type RM. But it looks like you have a Type X that someone stuck the sticker on.

You can still buy for about $15.

both vin decoders say Type R. Interesting they'd do a different wiper motor!

The idea, I think, was to break the wipers free from being frozen in place.
