JDM ECU on a USDM?

I searched but I didn't find the answer to my question. Can I use a JDM ECU on a USDM?

If yes, is it plug & play?

the guy i bought my fd from had a JDM ecu in the car, but he also managed to overheat a practically brand new engine too so who knows... Aside from that I have read that the biggest difference between a JDM and USDM EDU are the JDM one advances the timings somewhat due to Japan running a higher octane of fuel than we do. Im not sure if thats 100% correct, but its what has been said.

Newer FDs definitely pushed more ponies. I remember reading in general, all JDM FDs ran faster due to less emissions equipment but I have no idea on how that would correlate to the ECU. I know when I got one of my cats removed I didn't have to retune on my PFC. I would try to check what year the JDM ECU came from. I'm sure someone more knowledgeable could give you more info.

From what I know, they use different wiring harnesses.

I had a US ECU on a JDM engine, and it caused my engine components to break such as the valves and such. Until I equipped the engine with a JDM wiring harness.

I hope that helps a bit.

I went from a 92 jdm ecu to a power fc. I was concerned that my harness would not fit the power fc. My engine builder said they were the same as the North American ones.

As it turns out my power fc fit without any issue.

BTW I have a jdm ECU if someone wants to buy it lol.

theres no benefit....

which may actually HURT the motor since the USDM models have a lot more emission equipment than JDM models, and the ECU may or may not have the ability to correct for that.

These aren't Honda's......

Just stick with the UDSM ECU.

hmmm, JDM RX7's have just as much emissions as the US version. All three of mine carried smog pumps and all just like the US models. I've even compared them to the US model Rx7 at Camrons (Pettitracing) shop and they are all identical in regards to emission components. My 2000 looked cleaner though .

As in the harness, it depends on the year. 92-94 will fit US to JDM and vice versa.

I don't know if you all remember some time back, maybe five or so years. Some shops, I think rx7.com was one , were bringing in Power fc's from japan. They plugged right in, and they just needed to do a little cross wiring on the car to get the a/c to work properly. Two wires at that , and That was it.

I have plugged a 92 USDM rx7 into my 93 JDM rx7 to check that the computer was working and it started fine. I didn't drive with it though, it was just to see if the thing was working.
