jacking point redux

Has anyone noticed that the '93 shop manual shows the approved rear jacking point is stated as the differential (with an illustration), while the '94 manual specifies the center of the crossmember, but the illustration shows the differential. Does anyone know what Mazda recomends? I called customer service and for liability reasons they cannot give technical information. I hate like hell to stress an aluminum housing like that

The diff housing is cast iron, the rear cover is AL. The load on it isn't really that high compared with a drag launch. Don't stress about jacking it from the diff.

In 94 the rear crossmember added a couple of small braces. The braces DO NOT increase the rigidity of the crossmember for jacking. Use the diff to lift both rear wheels. I put the jackstands right where the lower control arm meets the crossmember.
