Yes, you can buy engine parts both brand new and good used. You can get remanufactured engine cores from Mazda (best from Ray Crowe and Malloy Mazda). Swap 'em and go...

The only parts you can't get are new floor mats, everything else can be had from Mazda - for a price.

Disagree. Besides, you could make the case that any car is on borrowed time at 60k. I think many here have alot more than 80k, IF their car was kept at stock boost levels and not tracked. And turbos on any car should probably be considered consumables, like clutches and brake pads (you just don't have to change them as often)

I enjoy doing my own maintenance and minor repairs. This might be valid IF you have a genuine "rx7 tech" nearby. But your not referrring to a MAZDA dealership....are you?

And who said there was bad advice floating around on the RX-7 forum?

If you're gonna own one of these cars, working on it is part of the package. Yes you can take it to a shop, but you can also fix it RIGHT yourself. If you do need to take it to a shop because of lack of mechanical aptitude (apparently that applies to some people on this forum) or you don't have time, do some research about who the good RX-7 shops are and who the bad ones are(Mazda dealers) , and which shops are closer to you. That's probably a good thing to do before you put any cash down on an RX-7. It's definitely a lot cheaper to learn how to work on this car (and a lot more fun), but to each his own.

There is a ton of useful information in the stickies at the top of the section. Between your good brain, the use of this forum, and a shop manual, I think you'll have a lot of fun learning this car and applying the knowledge. Good luck and enjoy.

my last 2 fds ran perfect because i had them serviced by certified rx7 techs.I guess you can be a BACKYARD mechanic like some people on this forum.Expect a lot of down time and headaches,and no you dont have to work on your fd to own one.

you disagree that at 80,000 miles the engine is nearing the end of its life! Go ask mazda how many of these engines crapped out before then,A very large % . You need more proof? anyone selling a original engine 80,000 mile fd cant get **** for it BECAUSE every rotorhead on this forum is afraid to buy it unless the price is low enough to support the cost of a rebuild and install.

Btw, i have owned two vettes and yes ,somehow mazda has found a way to make driving the fd very addictive.

im probably one of the youngest fd owners on this forum haha (im 16) but im proud to own one and i know what im doing. you sound well better off on owning one then me. and so far id say the same thing everyone else is saying.....just look around find one that you think your fit for (they look the same but you will know) i got screwed over on my deal with my car. she has a brand new engine but the guy who sold her to me screwed her all up......(roling back the miles, zip-ties, scratched paint, etc.) but im tring my best to get her back to perfection. but yea, just look around and if you want one ask if you can drive it first. might want to get the feel for it. oh yea one warning...be scared of second gear..exspecially around turns (im a drifter i know the power of a stock fd)
