The cruise control was added sometime after. Not uncommon. I added it to my R1 as well....everything was plug-n-play.

Because it doesn't have a sunroof, it doesn't mean it is an R model. Base models don't have sunroof.

My Silver R2 has a sunroof. The spec sheet from Mazda says it was special ordered with it.

Register your FD with the VIN. They'll give you some basic info about the car including the trim type (Base, Touring, R1/R2, PE).
I just tried that and it didn't tell me anything about trim levels.

It did confirm the int/ext colors, but nothing about options.

VIN#: JM1FD3319x0204xx0 (edited)
Transmission: 5-SPEED MAN OD TRANS 2W RWD
Engine: 2ROTOR INLINE ROTARY
Exterior: VINTAGE RED
Interior: BLACK

Here's the options sticker from my 1994 Base model:

The sticker on an R1 should list a Hard or Sport suspension as well as different seats, and maybe even a different Body Type of Model-Spec. If you can post a photo of that sticker, I'd appreciate it, especially if you've got an R1 (looks like you've got the early style gauges and interior plastic).

The sticker on my '93 looks completely different, doesn't show suspension etc.
