I've e-mailed this guy for more info, but give me some opinions....

I would like some initial thought on this guys ad for his 93 R1. What all do I need to ask? Is there anythign off the bat that you see I should think about? The guy mentions a lot of mods, but I don't see anything about new ECU or PFC Is that included in the "60hp package"??
He says the turbos are still at 5psi. That is odd. Can the stock wastgate go that low? Even with a controller, the spring still holds to a certain PSI....Thanks for any opinons guys

1993 RX-7 R1 in excellent condition. 2,000 miles on BRAND NEW Pettit Racing 13B 270hp street ported w/3mm Apex Seals motor with a NEW Pettit Racing 3G Twin Turbo unit. New motor Mount, Rotor Housing and Platinum Sparkplugs. That is not even close to all it has. Also, a Pettit Racing Trak Pro Super Street Suspension System, Pettit Racing 3" Stainless Downpipe, Super Short Shifter Kit, Pettit Racings TKT 60 HP Upgrade Package which includes: cold air induction, lightened power pulley kit, and exhaust. TKT Pillar mount Boost Gauge, 3G Fuel Filter, 3G ground wire Kit, 3G aluminum Air Separator Tank w/ vented lever cap, and a 3G boost hose Upgrade Stock Intercooler. The total repair bill on the car came to: $10,425.65. This car is in excellent condition. I spent the money to make it last. The motor has not even been tuned up yet. It is still in the break in mode. The turbos are still set at 5lbs. of boost and are made to handle 15lbs.. I do not drive this car hard, I planed to drive it for a long time. I do have all the paper work to back up what I say.

It has a well worn engine to be running 3mm seals.

How are the turbos set to only run 5psi?

Thumbs up

It is possible that the guy is trying to say that he doesn't drives it over 5 psi, because he is still breaking in the motor. However, it only takes 1,000 miles to break in the motor, I guess he really doesn't wants to take any chances. As for his setup, which is basically a TKT setup that is offered by Pettit Racing doesn't replaces or upgrades the OEM ECU. His setup is fine with the stock ECU as long as he doesn't increase the boost and get other modifications. I strongly suggest that you take it out for a test drive and make sure that the boost gets 10-8-10. The boost goes to 8 psi, because that is when the secondary turbo starts to kick in and you will see it quickly go back up to 10 psi. Also, make sure to get a compression test before you by that little baby. I think you should buy the car if it passes the compression test, boost, and meets your satisfaction.

Thanks for the info
I am piston savvy, but am learning my rotaries
I figure he has all the basics I would do anyway, and later (once I learn the car more) I can drop the cash to go single since the motor is already ported and has boltons.
The guy is, unfortunately, 600 miles from me If I get his location, someone want to take it for a test drive?

Could you go into further detail? I realize your thoughts, but have also seen people choose them in their rebuilds on here. So is there no other option, except the engine is well worn?

With regards to the 5psi of boost. When Pettit rebuilds a motor they "loop" the boost control to only allow 5psi of boost while breaking it in. At 1000miles you are supposed to bring it back so they can set the boost back to 10psi where it belongs.

With regards to the 3mm seals. When the motor is rebuilt 3mm seals are usually used because the guides are usually to worn to allow 2mm seals to be used.

It's nothing to be concerned with. I had my motor rebuilt by Pettit w/3mm seals. The only way it could be rebuilt with 2mm seals is to replace the rotors. Not worth it. 3mm is the most common way motors are rebuilt.

I own this car. This is the car in OK? Yeah, I bouhgt it a few weeks ago from Jeremy. It runs great and strong. I have upgraded it some more. ECU, SMIC, Midpipe, Fuel Pump, different DP, and new tires. They were pretty worn. I have all the paperwork and it was all there. Thanks for the interest in my car.
