Long story Rich. First my TPS broke. Got a new throttle body. Then my map sensor broke. Glued the tube back. Then my plugs fouled due to the above 2 incidents. Sent to workshop, they put in hot plugs. The tips of the plugs were scrapping the rotor. Never knew this was possible. Engine went after moving a few hundred meters. Upon removing the plugs found the tip of one plug was bent while the other went missing. Assumption is it hit the apex seal and the rest is history. Well I am getting another rebuilt with "detenation proof" 2-pc seals and teflon O-rings. Hopefully that will last longer then this engine which lasted less then 6 months. When everything is finally up and running hoping to boost at 1 bar and gunning for 400bhp. We run 98 Octane here so should not have any problems.

That has to be one of the worst horry stories I have ever heard, eugene. It sounds like your workshop is run by incompetent monkies......they put non-rotary spark plugs (piston motor plugs) in your car! They are paying for everything correct? B/c it was 100% the shop's fault. Man, I recommend working on your car yourself for minor stuff like that. Holy crap, that sucks......

There are no pure rotary shop over here in singapore . Due the the fact the number of rotary engines are limited . I hope to may be change that one day ..haha.. The closest rotary shop is VazMaz which is in malaysia. They drag their 13B PP turbo gen 1 rx-7 there . Winning a few torphes too . Hopefully with the increase in people here owning RX-8s we might see a full rotary shop

Haha! That would be a travesty won't it mate? I heard of a MX6 before but no idea what it looks like. If I had to put a Nissan engine in my car there is only one engine I would consider, the RB26!

Nope, I am paying for the rebuilt. No shops here are really Rotary inclined except for in Malaysia. I have been to all the major tuners in Singapore and in some way or another they have given me wrong advise on my car. Well over the years I have learnt bit by bit and this is the latest lesson. Partly my fault I did not realize the harm of using normal plugs or I would have stop them. I always thought that I was getting ripped off when one workshop sold me HKS rotary engine plugs for $35 per plug but I guess I was wrong. Anyway I got a new contact for Malaysia who knows quite a fair bit about FD's so he's my new guru! You live and learn I guess.

Lets hope you change that Ian. I got a spare engine now waiting to be stripped. Maybe you can figure how to up the power of the RX8's without turbos. I heard of a guy who spent around 30K and got a 30bhp increase...

Haha! Sure if you are willing to pay for the shipping and the barrel! Just kidding. But downside is petrol is very coslty here. I am currently running Shell V Power which is 100 octane I believe. Price? About US$1 per litre. Based on a 70 litre tank that would be $70 for a full tank. Even our 92 octane is about 85cents/litre. Ouch! Petrol prices on the rise here if not every where in the world due to soaring crude oil prices. Got a friend in texas who says petrol in the states is half the price of petrol here. Is that true?

Well currently I have access to 93 octane at ONE local gas station about 5 miles from my house. I pay roughly $30-$35 for a full tank of gas. Super unleaded 91 octane is $1.94/gal right now and 93 is $2.04/gal, so if you are paying $70/tank, I guess we are half price...ouch

The Renesis engine is a whole new can of worms . The first few turbos Rx8 die because of the high compression and the apex seal not being able the take the boost . You could keep it on low boost or machine the rotors to take 3mm seals but that would mean voiding the warrenty . The most you can do for the Rx8 now is high flow cat , cat-back exhaust and Remapped ECU . Porting for the Rx8 now is rare cause of the unsure size of the casting behind . There are indevelopment for the Rx8 like a supercharger kit from Blitz (still in testing phase) , tubro kits from hks or apexi(can remember which) . Both of which running low boost .
30k for 30Bhp , wow did that guy ever get ripped off...haha... i hope he is not your friend . Problem with the Rx8 is torque low down ,that could be solved by a new diff . May be a 4.77 for better pick up but you would lose out on overall top speed.

Yeah ouch man! Driving here sucks. We got the Octane but ain't got the roads to race. Nearest race track is in our neighbouring country malaysia!

Maybe you should start a small workshop and service the RX8 local forum. Not a bad sideline right? :-) You need facilities let me know I got a friend who can help. And the guy who spent 30K ain't my friend. A friends friend. Man for 30K I could make my car 500bhp! hahaha
