Interest in knowing how many FD's are registered??

In trying to find out where to find this number that we all speculate on, I found no luck at the DMV, USDOT, or Highway Patrol. However when I called the USDOT they referred me to a company called R.L Polk & Co., which is a large automotive statistics company.

http://usa.polk.com/Company/WhoWeAre/

In talking with an account executive there, she told me that they could retrieve this data and have a state-by-state list of the number of 93-95 RX-7's still registered. She quoted me the minimum amount for a data request which was $500.

Question is, is it worth it for a sizeable number of people to chip in a few dollars each?

If enough of you think its worth a few dollars to know the total number, as well as numbers by state, we can start a paypal donation system until the $500 mark is reached. Then I'll send the money so they can start retrieving the data and it will be posted on this forum, along with scanned copies of the report they send me and a receipt.

I've registered there, but I'm talking about an an accurate list by state of the total number registered in the U.S. fd3s.cc is just a site where you manually add your car to the registry.

BTW, is that site down?

How about contacting Barrett-Jackson first. They usually try to run numbers down like that before they let cars be auctioned off at their auctions. And since 3 FDs sold at the last one myabe they know or could put you in the right direction. Then again maybe they don't....just a thought.

Did they tell you it would cost $500 to provide a list of every state or did they just say that was a minimum price for any request? Please clarify if they agreed to do it for $500.

In talking with her on the phone she told me that the minimum cost for a data request was $500. When giving me her opinion on it over the phone she said that she didnt think it would be more than $1000 but somewhere in the $500-1000 range. I told her that the only parameters that would need to be met were 93-95 RX-7's, and by state. I asked if they could do it by color also but she said they couldnt.

I talked to her yesterday and this is the email I got today...

Matthew,
The cost to receive statistical data showing the number of Mazda RX 7's MY 93-95 by state is $500.00.

Please advise how you'd like to proceed.

Matt, do you know what information they can provide you w/? B/c a LOT of info is public information like names, addresses, VINs, etc. Not that I want ALL that info, but it would be helpful to know that "oh hey, there are 12 FDs in my immediate area...I gotta hunt 'em out" than "You have 17 FDs in this state" ya know?

I asked her how they retrieve the info and she says they get it from the state, so I'm not sure if they can localize it. They might be able to but that would probably have to fall under a separate data request if you wanted it for your own interests.

BTW: I just got a second email after asking about the accuracy of the data or whether it was based on estimates, and how long it would take...

"This is real data based on registrations. Turnaround to provide the data is just a matter of days once the agreement and prepayment are provided"

I'd appreciate it if you could just email 'em asking 'em what info it includes, as the State is the one that provides all the extra info too...it's public info. The info ALL comes from the DMV.

Thanks
