intercooler question which is better wider or longer intercooler cores?

Im looking at two intercoolers and they differ a little from each other. The first is a pfs smic and the second is the ultra rare rs akimoto smic(no pun intended).
the pfs core is 10.5 inches long and 10.4 inches tall with a width of 3.5 inches
while the akimoto unit is 12 inches long 8 inches tall and 3 inches wide.
Which intercooler given their respective core measurement will outperform the other.
Both of these units have spearco cores. As a general rule of thumb which is better thicker core and not as long or longer core but not as thick? thanx guys

Depends on more than that width or length. Core tubing number and size, internal turbulators, etc.

Thickness doesn't help as much as frontal area.

PFS 10.5 x 10.4" = 109. sq in
Other 12 x 8" = 96 sq in

In this case it looks like the PFS has the other one beat in both frontal area and thickness.

The PFS IC is a direct bolt in and has a good fit, the only IC I like better is the ASP/M2 Medium since it is also a bolt-in with a bigger ~12 x 12" core. I don't know about the other unit.

Speeddemon7,

Based on what turbojeff said, someone is selling an M2 Medium if you are interested.

The Bell IC website shows flow for all the cores they sell. If I remember correctly, when comparing 2 cores with identical dimensions, the 1 with the shorter travel flows significantly better. Say you compare a core 24X10X3, where the flow direction has the air travel parallel with the 24" dimension to the core where the air travels parallel to the 10" dimension, the 10" core flows much better. Frontal area would be the same for both.

thank you guys for the help on this subject. The pfs smic is looking better andbetter to me now.For many reasons. It will work with my efini y pipe for starters. Its also not as long which will make fitment much easier.Has a shorter traveling path according to rallimike which will flow better.Sounds good to me.
Now to actually find someone trust worthy that is selling one right now.Thats the hard part.
