intercooler pipe/y-pipe

ok just got a phone calll from mazda with regards to my boost leak, they reckon its this pipe

has a small crack and this was causing my massive boost leak , the thing is, that if they right (they wanted me to leave my car till tommorow to make sure this is the only leak i have) im gonna need a new one...now if i have to buy a new one i obviously dont want it to be plastic..so where can i get one from ? got any links?(i dont even know what its called)

and the other thing, maybe its the time to upgrade my y-pipe to efini y-pipe? which (i think) comes with the pipe i need as well? if so will i have any problems upgrading IC? lets say i want to go front mount or v-mount - will i have to change this pipe?

please let me know as ill be there tommorow and need to know..(if u got any links i would appriciate if u paste them here )

cheers

Typically, leaks in this area are not the crossover pipe itself, but the coupler which joins it to the y-pipe. In that case, you usually only need a new coupler and some new clamps.

Yes, the Efini Y-pipe comes with the crossover pipe and eliminates the coupler since it's a common failure. As far as it's longevity, that depends on what IC kit you go with. Some of them work with the Efini Y-pipe, and there are some designed based on the older coupler setup.

i have checked the coupler, and it wasnt leaking(its like 3 weeks old anyway), they reckon its a plasctic tube...

and where can i get cross over pipe? can i buy just a standard but aluminium one(it looks like there is no point buying efini -y-pipe if im gonna have problems afterwards)

You won't know if you'll have "problem" afterwards until you know what you are going to buy for your IC replacement.

You can typically find the stock crossover tubes used for sale cheap as most people can't give them away. I don't think you'll find a metal/aluminum one for the stock y-pipe. There are some that come with IC kits but not sold separately that I've seen but it wouldn't be hard to make something similar.

hmm im thinking of getting this:

http://www.xs-power.co.uk/index.php?...products_id=38

getting some custom made ducting (im gonna post a thread about this in a minute ) and maybe after a while, if i need it i convert it to v-mount (some people have used this IC for v-mount and it works great for them)

so it looks like im gonna have to buy this y-pipe...

you dropped your car off at mazda to find a boost leak?

man, i can't believe how some FD owners have absolutely zero mechanic skills.

it's not that hard to diagnose a boost leak on these cars - it's all right there on top of the engine bay!

if the crossover pipe is leaking, get a used stock one off the forums (cheap route) or order the efini pipes (more expensive route). simple solutions.

how much is mazda going to charge you? $200 in labor & $300 in parts for the stock replacement? lol
