Intakes

hey guys,
I'm sure this has been covered but I've been unable to find what I'm looking for so here goes.
I currently have a greddy intake system on my car but sadly the filters are warn and one of the pipes recently broke so I've decided to get a new system all together.
anyways, I was wondering what everyone else is currently running? what would you recommend?
thanks in advance guys.

also, as a sidenote: i recently came into a small sum of money from selling my FC which i decided to spend on my FD lol.

current mods are: greddy intake (getting change ^), apexi n1 single tip, 3 inch downpipe, boost and air/fuel gauge, and a crap load of brake stuff.
what seems like the next logical step to you guys?

lol sounds like a good route.
i've decided that i'm eventually gonna go with bnr's.
not quite ready to make that jump though.
anything slightly smaller worth doing?

I've been looking at a couple and i was wondering if anyone had any experience with the blitz dual core intake system?
performance, noise, etc?

buy a box stlye!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

this is turbo car...u want the lowest posible air intake temps. warm air will hurt you.

I is runnin AEMs and if u want intake noise, dont go with them, or maybe i cant hear em well since my n1 muffler is too damn loud

That is reversed logic. Because it is a turbo charged car having a cold air intake vs. an open air intake makes very little difference. The air is going to be superheated by the turbos regardless of what temp it comes in at. To get lower intake temps your best bet is to have a good intercooler.

we will have to simply disagree. if an oven is cold it takes longer to heat up vs one that starts off alittle warm. start cooler end cooler. so yes an ic makes a difference but they all work together.

hey its worked for me for very long making very good power. i have driven with alot of buddies with various setups and my car is usually the cooler one as measured by the power fc.

if you have performed a better test then i would love to her about it. until then i will go on enjoying my m2 box and recommending it to others.

your mods seem identical to mine....ever been to the 1/4 track....what mph u running?

doesn't matter if your CAI is down on the floor dragging to get the coldest air possible, it'll still heat up going through the hot turbo(s). End result is still determined by how efficient is your intercooler. Maybe there will be a slight difference for SMIC, but for front mount and vmount IC setup, doesn't matter how your intake is setup, your intake temp at TB should still be closely consistant depending on ambient temp.

for turbo cars, IC effects your final intake temp. CAI, not so much.

^That is debatable and has been beaten to death on various threads here throughout the years, and the big list before that, and other car gatherings before the onset of the internet.


My opinion is that it helps. I base my opinion partially on my experience during the years I ran a Greddy FMIC with a Greddy intake and my intake temps were as hot in regular driving as others who were running a SMIC with a cold air (or stock) intake. My coolant temps were higher also.


With that setup, ambient temps only made a difference if the car had fresh / ambient / cold air coming in through the nose. In stop and go traffic and slower speeds, getting air from outside the engine compartment helps a lot. At higher speeds, it might not matter as much depending on other factors such as the cars IC and rad setup.


Truthfully, all we have is anecdotal evidence and opinions based on our own personal experiences. Do your research and pick the option that you feel is the best compromise for your car and your driving conditions.

this is your guess. i remeber back in the day people actually did tests and ultimately based their view on this first hand experience. i recognize that the testing i have done might not be as scientific as using gauges and so on and switching out setups. but atleast its something other then my gut. i completely understand your logic but for me it doesnt hold water. if you start with 100 degree intake temp and apply energy to it of course it will heat up. just seems logical to me that if you start with 200 degree intake temp and apply the same energy you will end up with a higher value. **** my intake temps are in check and my car makes good power for its mods thats all i care about in the end.

As noted in that thread, your IC makes the biggest different in charge (intake) temps. The FD3S.net temps are taken at the intake not at the manifold where it really counts so it's a bit misleading.

Just get whatever intake you like. They all offer similar performance so just go with what looks good to you. The Blitz is one of the best looking intakes around, but it will be a problem if you ever plan to go with a large SMIC or FMIC.

The metal "filter" (if you can call it that) on the Blitz intake I had developed a few holes in it. Wouldn't recommend using it.

good to know.
i actually stopped by jrp earlier today.
i picked up a power FC with commander (for only $900 +tax) and ordered a set of hks twin core intakes.
also a tein spring dude plushie thing.

all i need now is to learn japanese so i can read the instructions for the pfc.
