Intake Manifold Temperatures
Just wondering if anyone knows how hot the intake manifold runs on a 3rd Gen? I'm detailing under the hood and just cleaned the manifold and was looking to put on some protectant. I have some waxes that can withstand 180-230 degrees, sealants that can take in the 300's and a coating that can take 800 degrees. Just trying to figure out what would be best to use.

I tried putting the normal variety of tire shine on the UIM, to stop the alloy corroding from condensation, etc that can collect under the hood. The tire shine survived for a month or slightly more. Plus, it was all I could find at the time, but it did the job.
I think Dad did a temp measurement of the alloy UIM after a normal days running around, and it got in the 80-95C temperature range (I think, I would have to ask him again). Certainly if you had a product that could withstand 120C you should be fine. I dont know if its worth applying car body waxes to a rough cast alloy UIM though... Dont see a lot of benefit there?

Coatings/waxes/foils applied directly to the manifold are nowhere near as effective as a real heat shield. Air barriers are excellent thermal insulators. I made a heat shield out of some sheethot xtreme wrapped in gold foil - it just bolts to a couple holes I tapped in the LIM:
Very easy to make, and my mostly unscientific testing showed a huge difference between my previous setup (LIM wrapped in gold foil) and this.
