insurance costs?

how much do you guys pay for insurance on your FD's? i currently drive a 2000 Honda Prelude and am paying about $600 every 6 months for full coverage on it. I just got quoted on GEICO if I were to add a 94 RX-7 with 130K miles on it for minimum coverage, and my payments shot up to nearly $2000 for 6 months

This seems a bit absurd, maybe I didn't do something right, but then again, maybe these cars really do cost that much more to insure?

There are a lot of different factors that go into your insurance quotes (your age, vehicle age, part availibility, type of vehicle, area where you live, ect...) I am right around 500-550 every 6 months for a non-daily driver listing.

I pay about $700 a year, although I have it listed as a "pleasure vehicle." I believe it limits me to 5k a year or something, but I don't put nearly that many miles on in a year.

I drive my car a lot. I pay $195 a month for full coverage through Progressive. I'm 23 if that matters to you. Also, not only does age, location, etc...all the stuff MGB11 mentioned, they also factor in their experience with owners of this type of vehicle.

I have GEICO as well and I pay $600/6 months for full coverage. The rx7 is the only car on the policy. I don't see why your quote is so much higher unless you have a history of driving incidents or you're very young. I'm only 23 and live in southern CA, which would seem like an expensive combo.

i'm also 23...i have a fairly good driving record i think. my current car (and only) is a 2000 Honda Prelude which comes right under 600 for 6 months of full coverage. what kind of deductibles are you guys running? i just re-quoted it to decline all coverage and do basic insurance on the rx-7 (as an additional car) and it came out to be around 738 for 6 months for both cars.

edit: i live in atlanta

That seems unbelievable to me. I called a collector car insurance place(haggerty) and they gave me a quote of $665 a year for 25k coverage. Also I paid $20 a month just for my 57 VW bug, minimum coverage.
I'll call B.S. on the $90 a year insurance premium.

I use Geico and it costs me about $500 for 6 months, full coverage.

I'll have to check out this Haggerty insurance co...I asked Geico about collector car insurance and I may have well been speaking greek b/c they didn't seem to know what I was talking about.

Anyone use or know of Haggerty? If I switch to them I want to make sure they are going to be there if I ever file a claim

I actually got my collecter insurance through Heacock. Grundy said no and Haggerty said they would have insured me if my daily driver was "significantly newer" than the car I was trying to insure. At the time my daily was an 87 Chevy Sprint turbo so now with my 96 volvo I may try again.

I pay about $300 for 250 deductible full coverage. They would only give me $15k agreed upon value and 3000 miles a year. I am going to try Haggerty again and see what they will do.

How the hell is any insurance company going to "enforce" you driving the car "more" than what you say in your quote?

I suppose that if you get in an accident and the mileage on the car is far greater than what the mileage was reported when you purchased it, thus averaging out to be more than the 2K or 5K you were "supposed" to drive it... then they would know. And even then, so lets say they do the math and figure that you drove an extra 1K or 2K more than you should have, so that means they will automatically drop your coverage in the event of an accident?

Think my coverage is with Safe Auto, not sure, the wife is a insurance brooker and she did the deal.

I am pretty sure that it is going up to 180 next renewal.

I get a statement to record and send back the mileage every year. I'm sure if I made a claim the first thing they'd look for is agreement in mileage.

My wife and I have 4 cars (including the 7), and we pay about 170/month with a 150.00 deductable. Thats full coverage on everything, but I have no idea what our limits are. I can say this, the cost only went up about 20 bucks when I added the 7. I can remember the days when full coverage on my escort was 350 a month, with a 1000 deductable.

I am sooo glad those days are gone.

I believe I pay $600 a year for full coverage. That was when I was 19, I'm 20 now, so it should have gone down a bit. I have the good student discount and multiple-vehicle discount. You know what's strange though, I pay $700/ year for my FC, it's an NA, it's 22 years old, and its only for liability, weird, huh?

AAA Insurance, btw.
