A question about jacking up the tranny: do you need to remove the center console so that the shifter can elevate with the tranny? And re-using the stock motor mounts won't cause a lack of room anywhere?

Unscrewing the shift **** is #1 with that done you won't have any problems and with the sotck motor mounts the engine will still be raised but only 3/16ths.

I'm going to be undergoing this nightmare in my driveway tomorrow, the thing is, my pan already has the Banzai brace, and the motor is relatively new, but it still somehow has a massive leak somewhere!

Where is the safest place on the body to place the jackstands, because usually when I put it on stands I put them under the subframe, but i'll be removing that . . .

Just aft of the front wheel on the pinch-weld, and just in front of the rear wheel on the pinch-weld.

Make sure to use the Right stuff with out a gasket. Wait for proper cure time per bottle.
I pulled my motor to do the oil pan and why it was out I had Garfinkle Motorworks port my turbo a little and rework my y-pipe. Slick looking work he does! Well worth the money. (see my 93 FD build thread)

A couple of questions:
1. in the pan brace instructions it states to put sealant on the threads of the pan bolts. I just want to make sure before I do this, that I am correct in thinking that I should put some of the "Right Stuff" sealant on the threads, after I clean the old stuff out of the bolt holes. Is this correct?
2. I wanted to pm GARCO Motorworks to verify this, but there is no option to send a pm when you click on his name. Why is this?
Thanks,

It looks like garco got banned, WTF?

I have only ever used silicone on the bolts for the motor mount brackets. I guess it probably wouldnt hurt to put a "small" dab on the oil pan bolts aswell, if thats what Garfinkles instructions say.

Post up the instructions so we can have a look at them.

Hey, im just wondering if there is some kind of write up to jacking up the engine from the transmission to repair the oil pan leak? Or if anybody has done it before, id love to have some pointers, because I will be tackling this project next week, thanks

There's not much to it. Remove the under carriage and unbolt the motor mounts so your engine can raise. You might need to undo your IC piping and/or intake depending on what's in your car. After that, put a jack under the transmission and start jacking. Go until it begins to lift the car off the jack stands.

In my case, I still needed to drop the subframe to get clearance. If you need to do that, you'll need to undo the power steering then undo the subframe nuts/bolts. You'll then be able to swing the subframe down to get complete access to the engine mounts and oil pan.

Even when you drain the oil, there will still be a fairly substantial amount left in the pan. Get ready to clean up some mess when you pop the oil pan off the car.

I also have a new OEM oil pan, because im not sure if my old one is bent, but I dont wanna put everything together and find out later that it is. Now by unbolting the power steering, you are referring to the rack and pinion?

Yes, you need to unbolt the steering rack from the subframe.
