this is turning into a very informative thread. I await the results from the track outing and hope for positive results.
95FD- About how much power does your FD put out in race trim? Curious if this is a 300rwhp/350rwhp/400rwhp setup.
Is there a possibility of a 14" Stoptech kit for FD's with 6 piston calipers? I'm sure there are some interested if the price is right...... I'm guessing this is what the Turbo Porsche in One Lap was running?

A six piston kit with bigger rotors is not in the cards at this point. The One Lap turbo was running our 4 piston setup (the same caliper that is in the FD kit), with a slightly bigger rotor...355x32mm vs. 332mmx32mm. The only added value of a six piston would potentially be better pad wear. The current 4 piston can produce more than enough clamping force, and the setup that we've released shouldn't have any trouble supporting FD's in the 300rwhp/350rwhp/400rwhp range.
Additionally, my research has shown that we are already at the optimal value for the price point in this market. For those that want more visual impact (bling factor), we could make a higher priced 6 piston kit with bigger rotors, but that's not what we're about. While our products do look great, we tend to focus on the performance aspects above all else. With brakes, you want only what is necessary to get the job done...anything else is just dead weight to drag around!

When I did my measurements, it appeared that if there was interference with the caliper, that I would need a 3mm spacer for clearance (which I think you mentioned earlier when you got the Pep Boys spacers). I'm pretty close to the limit for fender lip clearance as it is right now with the Fikse FM-5's offset.

Well, I installed my first StopTech 3rd Gen RX-7 kit today. Very easy. It took less than two hours from arriving at
the customer's house to finishing up the bleeding. I slapped together a short web page to describe the installation:

The customer had the larger 1999 rear brakes installed, so we went with custom piston sizing in front to
compensate. This was a yellow 1993 R1 and the car had just been detailed the day before. I love the paint on that car!
So much nicer than the red paint that chipped off my 1993 RX-7 R1.

There are three terms which, when multiplied together, determine the
amount of brake torque at a given wheel. They are:[list=1][*]Effective Radius (distance from center of hub to center of brake pad)
[*]Clamping Force (Total piston area x system pressure)
[*]Coefficient of friction of the brake pads[/list=1]
The effective radius is increased from 130mm to 140mm when you upgrade
the stock 294mm rear rotors to the 1999 330mm rear brakes. So the rear
brake torque is up 7% over stock.
We needed to increase the brake torque of the StopTech front system by
an equal percentage over stock. Since we weren't going to change the pad
compound or the effective radius (over the standard StopTech 332mm brake
kit) we needed to change the clamping force. So we went with bigger pistons.
The result was within one percentage point of the balance achieved by the
standard StopTech kit and the 1993-1995 USA 294mm diameter rear brakes.

They told me to say something in the range of $100 to $200.
An alternative I asked them to consider is to make up a new part number specifically for an RX-7 front kit that
assumes a 1999 rear 330mm brake upgrade. They are considering this and that would make this a no-cost option.

As for time delay, it will add about three weeks to the order. They've made up a bunch of the standard RX-7 calipers,
but the 34/36mm caliper is unique and will require some lead time.

Hey I'm not sure if you guys are aware but I know Sean is working on ducting for these kits that mount directly over the rotor. I'll let him know about this and see if he can post to it. I do know he is also finishing up with Rick on a rear kit to compliment the fronts.

This thread would be much easier to read if the person who owns this photo (Gargamel?) would edit it down to 800 or fewer pixels wide. It's 1280 pixels wide now and makes it necessary to scroll horizontally to read each post above and below it. Nice looking wheel, by the way!

No. I wouldn't be surprised if it fell below the radar, as they are swamped over there. I'll call them on Monday and ask about it. Thanks for reminding me. (I'm swamped too!)
