Installed springs - now scrapping or rubbing????

I have stock wheels and I just installed Tokico illuminas with Switft springs. The drop is about 1".

When I corner at moderate speed (ie. entering ramp onto highway going about 60mph) and hit a very small bump I hear something scrap as I go over the bump. Sound appears to be coming from front end.

The bump in the road is very small, like a ripple or crack in the pavement. It doesn't sound like rubbing, more like metal scrapping on pavement. I can also hear it going over slightly larger bumps going in straight.

So obviously something is scrapping as the suppension compresses.

Any ideas?

Your front strut tops are probably worn out - I highly recommend replacing them when doing springs. I bet if you measure the height from the ground to the top of the fender lip, the driver's front will be lower than the passenger front.

The driver's mount sags more over time due to the weight of the driver.

Get 2 new front strut mounts and you should be good.

jack it up and look. mine was rubbing up on top where the plastic is covering a wire bundle. I wounldn't drive until you can have a good look.

alignment took care of this problem. mind you I bought new strut mounts. PM me.

Thanks,

I have new ones on the way. But it sounds like a scrapping, not a thumping that I would think a worn mount would sound like.

I'm on springs as well and my front lip scrapes on the highway. Maybe that's what it is?

measure your ride height from the ground to the fender lips and post it up.

When the tires rub thru the plastic liner and then the wiring harness all hell will cut loose. Happened before, will happen again.

The worn mount won't clunk or anything - it's worn down, so the rubber mount that should be, say, 2 inches tall is only 1 inch tall, reducing the ride height on that corner. The low ride height is what's killing you, on hard turns the tire will rub the fender liner.

Get new strut mounts, get an alignment, you'll be good.
