installed koyo, hood wont close

i just finished installing my koyo radiator and pettit ast. everything went great till i shut the hood. it wont shut. so i found the problem...had to drill the mounting brackets to fit the rad a bit higher. now the airbox is higher and the hood is hitting it........bummer its not a big deal but i just want to drive it! i guess i'll buy an intake like apex or something. unless you guys have any ideas.

Welcome to the world of modifications where some parts are not designed perfectly.

That's why I bought a fluidyne

From what I have read, you need to change some of the lower brackets to make it fit right. I'm sure a search will provide you with the answer you are looking for.

Good luck!!

i took a break and went back to it and found the problem. it is hitting the ac condensor. it must have moved when i was removing the i/c duct. i'll fix it in the morning.

i usually slot the radiator brackets to help in alignment issues like this.

my koyo fitted okay, just bent mounts where the bottom part of the radiator rests on (the swaybar bracket) lowered the condesor with some longer bolt/washers and the ps brackets. I have roughly 1/2 inch gap between the radiator and the condensor.

MORE problems....but not because of the koyo (probably my fault) shhh
i was able to move the a/c condensor lower and buttoned everything back up. hood closed great and everything was cool.
i started the car and let it warm up for about ten minutes, and then coolant just started draining out quite rapidly. and i couldnt very well tell where the leak was coming from because i could not remove the undertray with all the coolant coming down. but when it was done i removed it and the intake also. the rad hoses seem good. i think it has something to do with the ast hoses, as it did not start to leak until it got hot.

i put on silicone hoses as well but i did not use new hose clamps. i want to see if there is silicone hoses that connect to the ast, overflow tank and radiator. are these available or do i need to "cut to fit?"

also when the car was hot, it sounded like it was detonating. (i wanted to cry) and it was idling around 1500. am i on the right track with new hoses and clamps or am i missing something? any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

mike

Try finding out where the leak is coming from first, could be just a loose clamp. Then make sure you get as much air out of the radiator by massaging the hoses then burp the system well (fill the radiator till it's full and put some in the ast and make sure you have coolant in the overflow tank, warm up the car, gas it in neutral between 2k-3k rpms for about 5 mins, let it cool down compeletly and check the radiator if the fluids drop then add more and repeat the steps agian, till it's pretty close to being full and over the next couple of weeks check it to make sure the fluid levels are correct.

Oh if you didn't fill the radiator correctly and have large amounts of air in it, when the coolant is pumped through the system it does make a lot of noise, (thats what i did) hopefully you didn't cause too much damage.

ok well i figured it out. it was a bad hose that was on the ast. it must have got damaged during the removal. oh well no biggie. o and thanks for the purging tip, worked like a charm!

that seems to be the general consensus with the koyo. guess mine is a bit of a fighter, i like that in a weird kinda way.

pne point i might add is that i am a bit unexperienced working on cars with smaller engine bays and clearance problems have never been an issue for me. so i'll take this experience with a grain of salt and mark it as a lessoned learned. car is running perfect i might add. thanks for all the help
