if the usdm chassis to be used is currently registered then after all the spirit r parts are swapped it doesn't need to go through inspection does it?

You could cut the vins off a registered USDM chassis and weld them onto a JDM chassis to get a registered JDM car.

The problem is you are going to be driving a LHD car and someone might just notice something is a little different and bust you for all the illegal mods (every single thing that is different on JDM car versus USDM car).

It'd be better to bring the while car over, swap everything between the two, and you'd have two full cars.

How is a RHD car USDM? shouldn't all USDM cars be LHD?

Oh got it. but converting a LHS to RHS sounds like a lot of work. Are the chassis even the same?

Chassis are the same. Iirc there is even a spot in the firewall for the steering on both sides. I'm not home else I would double check.

problem would be registration. if they found out about it they'd send it to the crusher like they do with gtr's

can a car even be registered as a show or race car to be driven only at a track?

i thought it was legal to register a foreign car in the states, the only issue would be how expensive it is.

Its easy to register a foreign car if its older than 25 years old, if not, its next to impossible (Legally), far too much work, too much money spent, and too many good cars crash tested for no real reason.

If money really wasn't a problem, couldn't we buy some huge property, build a track, and import spirit Rs and GTRs illegally and just drive on our own property without registering?

It wouldn't be an actual Spirit R. It'd be s usdm Fd with Spirit R parts. Leave the actual spirit r whole not strip it so you can have a clone.

If money is not an issue, move to Japan and just go buy a real Spirit R. At least you won't destroy a car that is some guys dream car over there, or another country where that car can be legally imported.

Or just keep it a track/show car and never register it.

I don't think anybody will appreciate a fake Spirit R.

I know at 7 stock/DGRR it might even be laughed at if it was found out it was a replica.

Kinda like a Lamborgini Fiero.

Honestly, if anyone is going to do all this to be appreciated and not to enjoy the car for yourself, you should leave this forum. I know alot of people that really like my replica (rx7 and non rx7 guys alike) and a bunch of people who won't tell me to my face that they think the replica is lame (myself and rx7 people in this camp). I honestly don't care. I spend my money on the pursuits I enjoy not to make other people happy. I'm actually more offended by the fact that people who don't like my car will talk behind my back about it instead of to my face. People are allowed to have different opinions! It's all good!

Ok, Ok. I'll admit I've been a hypocrite here. I thought more about what I said.

The Spirit R-eplica will not get laughed at, I was wrong to say that. The truth is we just wish it was real, so we make the best that we can.

Also I am guilty of having a replica too. I'm going to have an Mazdaspeed A-spec replica, with ms-02's and other mazdaspeed parts like the yellow intial D car. This rims and side skirts will be the only original mazdaspeed parts. And I know a majority of people think those rims are ugly. But like you said, I did it for me because it made me happy and I don't care what other people think. It's what I've always wanted.

So yeah, I got checked. But It made me think twice to listen to the person again and to realize what is important, it is that we do what makes us happy.

Sorry, I didnt mean to offend anyone.

Ben

Hahaha sorry man I didn't mean it to come off that way. You're one hell of a guy to man up when you think you've done something wrong and I certainly didn't think you said anything offensive in the least. Either way, I certainly respect what you said good sir even if it was unnecessary. Even if what you said was offensive, it's a forum for discussion. If we all agreed with each other, I wouldn't come here at all. Besides, I was sort of side-tracking the discussion to something I've been noticing alot in other communities buuuuut those Civic and VW guys still suck...FOREVER.

Discount on v-mount?????

After seeing Supernaut's care at DGRR...that is one meticulous and beautiful car. I like to think he makes up for those of us who ravage our FD's. Haha.

It seems foolish to ship a car twice.

If you just transfer the parts and make it RHD using the USDM chassis it should be "legal".

To the OP.... what he said. Spend your money and Grab the Spirit R parts first. An FD roller is way easier to get. You should be able to build a nice car for under 20K for everything.

XLR8.

I love the 25th Anniversary Lamborghini Countach, that is my dream car. I blame this for my fetish for the MS-02's. Plus I already have all the pieces of the kit. I just need the ms hood. Gonna put my twin track kit in it, car came with 99's. Just has a blown motor....go figure. Got the car with a blown motor and a kick in the rear quarter for 2500.
