Question importing a car from japan?

so is it possible? wouldnt it be nice to be able to buy a 2002 rx7, swap out the dash / steering column/and abs/master-cylinder...and have a left hand drive car? is there much more to it than that?

Yeah, besides still being completely illegal.

Wasn't there just a thread about this earlier this week?

The problems that I see with building this way is that newer FD's had different systems and different parts. Running a newer FD would be hard if not almost impossible to find those parts through US distributors.

just my $0.02...

skylines have a MUCH smaller following and def. not cult-like like us FD owners... and look at wut it takes to get a Skyline streetlegal in the US....

Motorex does it..and the r34 is like 80gs to get, then it takes about 25 grand to make it street legal in the US.

street legality must be crash tested, pass emissions, and a host of other things

im sure other ppl know a lot more about this than i do, but i dont think u can use the logic of well the 3rd gens are already street legal in the US...and the jspec ones are only a newer model but same gen... so it's just ship over and ur good 2 go....

i think ud have to bring a 99 spec, get it crashtested, put some saftey devices on it (like i know skylines have to have the doors reinforced w/ steel bars), etc etc. (btw...right hand drive IS street legal. u DONT need to convert a car to left hand drive to make it street legal)

point is tho..there's a lot more that goes into it than just "getting it over here and switchin out the parts"

About the Skyline, price depend's heavily on what model you are interested in.
You can buy a used R34 Vspec II for around 40k. Shipping, lading, and federal fee's can range from 5-12k.
And legalization fee's can range from 15-25k.

Importing a car from Japan, is cheaper than you think.
