Im highly considering an Rx-7, Need information and insights about usual problems etc

i am considering getting an rx7 from a guy who is a mechanic..

my friend had a conversation with him and he said all the following..

-has a cherry red 93 touring edition with the R1 hook ups
-its fully loaded

-84k documented miles
-no accident history
-all original touring
-really mint
-severely full maintenance

-with all original brochures and everything you can get with the car from day 1

then he said, "ITS NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND ONE LIKE MINE IN SUCH ORIGINAL CONDITION FOR UNDER 20K"

im a bit sketchy on a few things though..
1) what do you think he means when he says 84k DOCUMENTED miles?
2) "no accident history" does this mean he could have gotten into an accident, but theres no history of it?

i know i've gotten into an accident with my car, but there are no records of it.. so whats that mean?
3) what are the "R1 Hook ups?"
4) nearly impossible to find one under 20k? is that true?

anyhow, im also wondering what the usual problems are that the car generally runs into, and also the rare ones if anyone knows of any..

when i bought my last car i didnt look into the general problems, then ran into a huge transmission problem.. if i had just done research i would have seen it coming..

im looking for any and all assistance here, any advice or comments are greatly appreciated (except flamers, dont post if you're going to flame)

thanks in advance for all the help

Q1) im not exactly sure what he means by "documented" miles but you should ask him whether the engine has been rebuilt/replaced. If it is the original engine, you should expect to spend money on that in the not too distant future. 3rd gen engines are not known for their longevity.
Q2) dont know
Q3) Just off the top of my head, the R1 has two oil coolers instead of one, rear spoiler, chin spoiler, front strut bar, and (I think) suede seats. He probably doesnt have the R1 seats.
4) My opinion is: that's a crock. I dont care what kind of condition its in. With 84k miles, it isnt worth $20k. For $20k or less you can find FDs with fewer miles in excellent condition. Personally, I wouldnt pay $20k for one with 84k miles, but it's up to you.

15k, perhaps 20k if he totally supped it up with a single turbo upgrade, ecu upgrade and fuel upgrades.

it really depends on how badly you want it and the availblity around your area.

Before purchasing I would dedicate a few days searching valuable info on this forum because it could end up saving you from something you werent ready for. I see this was your first post and I dont mean this as being rude but you dont seem super familiar with the RX7 since you didnt know what the R1 hook-ups were, again I am not trying to be rude but I am trying to help you from getting in over your head. Search around, see the pluses and negatives of owning a car this caliber and then base your decision on facts. Good luck to ya and welcome to the forum.
