Great work. My Screen has not yet been enclosed but they are outstanding systems. My CarPC features a Xenarc 7" Touchscreen rather than the Lilliput but works identically.

What interface are you planning to use. I am using mediacar with the brushed metal skin GUI that features the Efini logo. Mediacar allows me to use Delorme Street Atlas USA, FC Edit, and play videos & mp3s simulataneously by allowing alt/tabbing between applications. I am using a great little USB keybord with lighted keys called a Zippy. If you are looking for great shareware interfaces try going to www.mp3car.com.

Good work, I sold my Lulliput screen when I bought the RX-7 to my buddy but now I'm considering getting another after seeing such good work with them. I'm still not sure if it is right for the car but it does look better than most flashy radios.

Hey guys, what are the outside dimensions on the lilliput 7”?
And why did you go with the lilliput over the Xenarc? Simply price?
You have obviously read all the negative reviews of the touch going out on the bottom right of the lilli screen right?

I PMed redrx7 about the glare off his, and the dimentions, but no reply.

Can you guys give me an idea of what the glare is when the sun is out and shining directly on it, and the outside dimensions of the monitor?

Jeff on the Xenarc?
ejmack1 on the lilliput ?

how well does the interface work, and what different software have you tried?

I never received a PM from you??

The glare is from the camera flash. It doesn't look like that to the normal eye. I will try another picture.

I have a record of it in my sent items box, I can take a screen shot to prove it, not that it is a big issue.
I will send it again

Its just that I am very interested in setting up a system similar to what you guys have done.

It seems like it is a hit and miss with the lilliput. Bad touch screens Jurassic park bios flash screens, around a %50 failure rate but people say the screen is much crisper and better color if you can get one that works, except for problems with glare. And you cant beat the price.

The Xenarc has a much better approval rating and less problems with it by far. People say it is better for text, and that it doesn’t have nearly the amount of glare. It can also turn on and off remotely I guess.

I am still looking for side by side comparison between the 2 for picture quality.
And wouldn’t mind going with a lilliput if I can find someone reputable that is local and will back up the product.

Yes, I can attest, the glare isnt too bad on the screen... it day-day light it is there but nothing some contrast adjustment and proper color schemes wont fix. It is much better than the Pioneer I have with the polished cover... ugh, cant see a thing during the day.

The Xenarc has been used in 5 different cars and it has never been unviewable as a result of glare. I love it. Glare in photos is usually related to the fact that the screen is off. With something on the screen it is usually excellent viewing.

I am a major fan of mediacar although I have tried media engine and frodoware. The skins are terrific on all the interfaces. For my applications media engine did not perform consistently enough. I am running Win 98 SE by choice, I chose a slower CPU to help deal with some heat issues. I think media engine may be more reliable if you run XP.

ejmack, any chance you could take a pic of the back of the headunit panel you have the screen smoothed into?

I'm worried that the screen will need some sort or reinforcement and that just having it molded into the plastic alone wont be secure enough -- might crack with hard stopping fromthe weight of the panel, etc.

Thanks man,
~Kris

you are right on key with that...

I already cracked it, know its time to find a way to make it more sturdy

live and learn... oh well not like im in a hurry to get it done, and the crack isn't very noticeable unless you are an inch from it, but im sure it will get worse if i dont do something about it.

That's quite an awesome setup. Reminds me of the glass cockpit, freakin badassss!! Have that, and 3 guages in a pod that take the place of the center speaker, plus a Heads up boost display and Valentine one in the rearview mirror. Can't forget the power FC, duh! - mold the screen into the center console somewhere. Just babbling on other options to go withthis one, making it look like a fighter jet! I've been writing papers all day long so forgive me

Maybe some simple aluminum backings that attach to the origanal plastic, like JBweld some stand-offs or something to mount it into. Not the BEST solution but one that would function without too much work.

Yep -- like a charm, solenoids love it. You may want to rough up the surface to give it something to stick to, a flat surface wont give much grab so you want to give it as much as possible.
